Coimbatore-based Paramount Airways has decided to offer 50 per cent concession on tickets to physically challenged passengers.
The airline is offering travel free of cost for physically challenged children below 12 years. Such children have to just bear the passenger service fee of Rs 221, levied by the airport.
Paramount Airways managing director M Thiagarajan said this was the highest concession the physically challenged passengers are getting from any domestic airline company in the country.
The handicapped are getting concessions ranging between 10 and 15 per cent from certain other airlines.
"Kingfisher Airlines recently started offering concessional fares to armed force personnel in line with other domestic airlines," an aviation industry analyst said.
Paramount Airways, which was launched commercially on October 19, is operating with its new generation Embraer 170/190 aircraft.
"We have launched new flights to Chennai from Madurai. New services such as Chennai-Bangalore and Chennai-Hyderabad will be kicked off from April 19," Thiagarajan said. He said post the expansion the airline would have 22 flights a day, carrying over 1,600 passengers a day.
Paramount has also introduced e-check facility where passengers can get their boarding passes printed. This would reduce the wastage of time at airports, he said.
"This will help passengers save time substantially. We have already introduced e-ticketing to facilitate passengers for easy booking," he added.
Paramount's $525 million expansion plan included acquisition of 15 aircraft, including Embraer 170, Embraer 175 and Embraer 195.
Earlier, Kotak Mahindra Bank's private equity fund, India Growth Fund had picked up 10 per cent stake in this start-up airline for $15 million. The Times group too had picked up two per cent stake in the company for $3 million.
