Reliance Infocomm's Rs 25,000-crore (Rs 250 billion) telecom project is based on a game-plan of making services affordable and accessible to all.
As the company rolls out its mega plans, analysts expect the country's teledensity to improve from 4 per cent and 4.5-7 per cent within a year of its launch.
The Reliance group is simultaneously working on luring customers with attractive tariff structures as well as financial schemes to make the schemes affordable and within reach of everyone.
"The tariff, schemes and services offered by Reliance Infocomm are evolved with a view to capturing a substantial market share", analysts claim.
"The game-plan is to capture the projected growth target of 7 per cent teledensity which the Government under the national telecom policy 1999 envisaged by 2005", they add.
However, they warn that the company's market share would also swell as a result of churn, when subscribers of cellular mobile telephony move over to limited mobility.
Also, with the introduction of value-added services such as Internet, voice over internet protocol and video conferencing, there is potential for growth in fixed-lines services.
Reliance is banking on its innovative offers to attract customers. The first scheme involves a down payment of Rs 14,400 for three years with an airtime charge of 20 paise per minute and Rs 10,000 for a code division multiple access handset.
The second option is a monthly rental of Rs 240 with incoming calls free and outgoing calls charged at 40 paise per minute and the third option has a monthly rental of Rs 500 per month.
Some of the salient features include free airtime covering 800 minutes per month, and the balance airtime can be carried forward up to three months while excess monthly airtime usage will be billed at 5 paise for a 15-second pulse.
The customer will also have a choice of multiple subscription services within 20 cities where Reliance Infocomm offers services. The company has also thrown in toll free numbers for calls to its call centres.
Reliance will also offer free short messaging services, while it will charge for Internet, multimedia messaging services, and downloads of MP3 and video clips.
Besides this, if a customer is not satisfied with the services, he/she will get a full refund within 30 days.
The company is also offering a financing facility through ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank. Moreover, the customer can choose handsets which are offered under four segments, Topaz - Rs 1,500, Silver segment Rs 3,000 - Rs 5000 , gold segment Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000 and platinum Rs 15,000 onwards.
Reliance Infocomm is planning to charge Rs 3,000 as initial deposit as membership coupon. These coupons will give customers ready access to Reliance's proposed food, beverages and cafe galleries across the country.
The signing amount is compulsory for each customer, say sources. This is over and above the tariffs chosen by the customer.
