Expressing satisfaction over the resolution of the Singur issue, the Congress on Monday said the Left Front government in West Bengal should not undertake 'any such measure' in any part of the state without a comprehensive package.

"We hope now that the state government shall not undertake any such measure like Singur in any part of Bengal without a comprehensive package and with the due consent of all parties without undermining the farmers' interests", state Congress chief P R Dasmunsi said in New Delhi.

Thanking Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi for his initiative to resolve the impasse, Dasmunsi, however, said though other parties were not involved in the process, Congress was happy that farmers' interests have been protected through dialogue.

"Had the state government been serious enough to understand the interests of farmers, things would have been taken in a better direction long back. However, better late than never," he said.

Dasmunsi said the Congress has been demanding 'land for land and a comprehensive rehabilitation package' for a long time and 'we are happy' that the Governor involved the state government and the agitators to evolve a package.
