Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Friday sought a review of the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, contending that they would promote disparities among the different sections of government employees.
Prasad said he has requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to also have a re-look at the recommendations made vis-a-vis Railways, saying there was a lot of unrest among the rail employees and they were threatening to go on strike.
"The Pay Commission report does not treat everyone at par. The recommendations will lead to increase in disparities among different sections. The difference between the increase in the salary for the lowest rung employee and the highest is as much as 12 times as compared to ten times earlier," he told reporters in New Delhi.
Prasad said there is a lot of dissatisfaction among the Armed Forces, paramilitary forces, fourth grade employees, middle rung employees, IPS officials in comparison with the IAS officers.
He said he has received several representations from railway employees and they have even threatened to go on strike.
The minister also criticised the report for suggesting corporatisation of the Railways and ignoring its spectacular turnaround. "A committee has been set up to screen the pay commission report that was submitted to the Cabinet on Friday. I requested the Prime Minister that these issues should be looked into by the committee," he said.
A representative of the Railways, either the Finance Commissioner or Member Secretary, would be on the 12-member committee.
