Birlas' file objections to Lodha's plea

Six Birla family members have filed objections to Rajendra S Lodha's probate application in the Calcutta high court for legal authentication of the disputed will of Priyamvada Birla.

Confirming the development, Birla's lawyer N G Khaitan said on Saturday that affidavits in opposition had been filed on Friday.

He also confirmed that the objections had been filed by K K Birla, B K Birla, G P Birla, Yashovardhan Birla and two sisters of M P Birla - Laxshmi Bai Newar and Radha Bai Mohta.

Birla's lawyer, however, declined to give any detail about the contents of the affidavits in opposition.

Notices had been issued to five members of he  Birla family on July 23 after the probate application was filed by the Lodha on July 19 and as per rules the Birlas were to reply within a stipulated time frame of eight days.

Lodha has been bequeathed the entire assets of M P Birla Group worth Rs 5000 crore by the purported will of Priyamwada Birla, who died on July three.

Lodha had already challenged the caveats by K K Birla, B K Birla, G P Birla and Yashovardhan Birla and the matter would come up before the court on August 25. Caveats by the two sisters of M P Birla, however, has not been challenged.
