The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York held its annual soiree, the Costume Institute Gala recently and celebrities from around the world put their most fashionable foot forward.

Check out who made heads turn at one of the most important fashion dos in the world.

We start with Emma Stone who was recently voted among the sexiest women in the world and was seen in this pretty pink design by the Thai-American designer Thakoon Panichgul.

If you ever wanted to know how difficult it must be to get around in a stupendously huge gown, Karolina Kurkova might have some answers.

Oscar nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld shines in a Prabal Gurung number.

Trying to channel her inner flapper girl, perhaps not so successfully in a Prada, was the hottest new thing in Hollywod, Lupita Nyong'o.

Pastels were the way to go for pop star Taylor Swift and model Suki Waterhouse.

Singer Rita Ora seemed to be having a tough time with her rather risque Donna Karan number and may have shown us more skin than she intended.

Never the one to shy away from showing off her incredibly hot bod, Rihanna turned up the heat at the Met red carpet too.

Opting for trousers were British supermodel Cara Delevingne and designer Stella McCartney. Kate Bosworth and Reese Witherspoon though seemed happy to tow the line with classic evening gowns.

Yellow, as you can see, may not necessarily be the colour for this season.

Karlie Kloss glammed it up in an Oscar de la Renta gown while Arizona Muse looked pretty as a Disney princess in a Ralph & Russo number and Lily Donaldson turned up the heat in a monochrome Burberry number.

And we wind up with Kate Upton's Dolce & Gabbana number that may have showed off her… er… best assets but was most certainly a fashion fail. :-(
