Following India's disastrous showing in the Test series in England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has come down hard on its players.
According to a report in The Indian Express on Thursday, the BCCI has decided that girlfriends will no longer be allowed on tour and there will also be restriction on the duration of the wives' stay overseas.

India won the second Test at Lord's but lost the next three matches and the five-match series 1-3.

Star batsman Virat Kohli was given special clearance to take his girlfriend, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, along for the England tour, but following his poor showing with the bat in the series -- 134 runs in 10 innings -- the Board decided to take drastic action.

"The England tour has been an eye-opener for everyone. From whatever information we have gathered, it’s been seen that even if players wanted to focus on their cricket, their wives were being a big distraction.
"When some wanted to go to the gym or do nets, they couldn’t do so because their wives wanted to explore the city. So we have planned that after this England series we will curb the number of days the wives spend with their husbands on tour," a top BCCI official was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

The report further adds that, henceforth, players will be at the BCCI’s behest when it comes to making travel plans with their wives for overseas tours.

"These are some of the issues we wanted to address to see that the Indian team gets back on track. Whatever happened has happened, we want our boys to be more focused on their cricket from hereon," the source added.

The BCCI had also granted permission to Cheteshwar Pujara, Murali Vijay, Ravichandran Ashwin, Stuart Binny and Gautam Gambhir to take their wives along for the England tour.
