Sanju Samson bounced back to form with a rampaging half-century to fire India to a thumping seven-wicket victory in the second T20 International against Afghanistan, to seal the three-match 2-0 with one match to go.

Samson blasted 57 from 22 balls as India cruised to 163/3 in 14.5 overs to win with 31 balls to spare.

Samson and fellow opener Abhishek Sharma, who hit 39 from 19 balls, took the game away from Afghanistan as they added 88 runs for the opening wicket from just 38 balls.

Earlier, Nitish Kumar Reddy picked up three wickets as India managed to limit Afghanistan to 159/8 in their 20 overs on a good pitch.

Abhishek is dismissed after a quickfire 39 from 19 balls, with four sixes and two fours. He put on a sensational stand of 88 runs from 38 balls for the opening wicket with Samson to take apart the Afghanistan in the Powerplay.

Ishan Kishan gets off the mark with a single before Samson gets an edge off Rashid but it flies past the slip fielder for a four.

Samson has smashed his way to a half-century from just 20 balls -- his fastest fifty in T20 Internationals.

Rashid drops short as Samson manages to get enough power on the pull shot for a six over midwicket as the fielder misses a tough overhead catch.

However, Rashid gets his man off the last ball. Samson lofts it down the ground but can't get enough power as Nabi takes a good catch on the edge of the ropes.

India captain Shreyas Iyer has won the toss and elected to bowl against Afghanistan in Delhi on Tuesday.

India have kept faith with Sanju Samson, who has been retained despite struggling for runs recently. He has managed just 43 runs in the last five innings.

This could be a make-or-break game for Samson with the young batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi waiting on the sidelines.

India have made one forced as the injured Varun Chakravarthy has been ruled out with leggie Ravi Bishnoi taking his place.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan have retained the same playing XI.

Confident India eye series win vs Afghanistan

Welcome to the coverage of the second T20 International between India and Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday.

India will be aiming to wrap up the three-match series after they had trounced Afghanistan by seven wickets in a one-sided contest in the first match on Sunday.

Shreyas Iyer's men ticked all the boxes as pacer Arshdeep Singh and opening batter Abhishek Sharma produced sensational performances to set up the win.

While Arshdeep (3/19) was precise in his execution to help India restrict Afghanistan to 156 for eight, Abhishek came out all guns blazing with a 32-ball 82 to help complete the chase in 13.4 overs.

However, Chakravarthy, who picked up a wicket in the series opener after recovering from a hamstring injury that he had suffered during the tour to England in July, was on Monday ruled out of the series due to a side strain, rendering him doubtful for the upcoming Asian Games as well.

Jasprit Bumrah made a successful return from injury, taking a wicket, while Axar Patel too was frugal in the middle-overs.

But Iyer struggled to fill the fifth bowler slot and his batting all-rounders -- Shivam Dube and Nitish Kumar Reddy -- could not step up.

Dube conceded 21 runs after coming on to bowl for the first time in the last over. Reddy went for 30 in his two overs. Abhishek also rolled his arm over for an over, but the trio's collective four overs leaked 59 runs.

With the specialist bowlers -- Arshdeep, Bumrah, Axar and Chakravarthy -- doing the bulk of the damage, India were never really tested. But Chakravarthy's absence will make Iyer's life harder as he would want a more settled option with the Asian Games on the horizon.

Iyer might bring in leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi or go for off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar as his replacement.

Opener Sanju Samson (10) continues to live on the edge and will hope to come up with a substantial innings after falling early on Sunday.

With in-form youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi breathing down his neck, Samson would hope to turn the tide quickly and retain his slot as Iyer finalises the XI for India's Asian Games campaign in Japan.
