Connolly's 100 in vain as SRH seal win

PBKS 202-7 (20 Ovs) vs SRH 235-4 | SCORECARD

Sunrisers Hyderabad have now made it 9 wins in 9 games in Hyderabad against Punjab Kings, setting a new IPL venue record--surpassing the previous mark of 8 wins held by Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Chepauk against Chennai Super Kings.

For Punjab Kings, it's a sharp reality check.

After a strong run of seven unbeaten games, this is now a third straight defeat, halting their momentum at a crucial stage of the season.

The chase of 236 was always a steep ask, but PBKS arrived with confidence--having successfully chased all five targets earlier this season. That belief didn't last long.

The game effectively slipped away in the powerplay. First 4/2, then 23/3--early blows that exposed their top-order fragility under pressure.

From there, it was always uphill, and SRH never let them recover.

Sunrisers Hyderabad win by 33 runs, climbing to the top of the table, while Connolly's heroic hundred stands out in a losing cause.

Punjab under pressure as SRH eye big win

image

Punjab Kings don't just have a dip in form--they have a problem. After six straight wins, two defeats have exposed cracks they can't ignore as they face a confident Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad.

Punjab still sit on 13 points from nine games, but the table has tightened fast. Their early dominance was built on explosive batting, masking an inconsistent bowling attack. Now, both units are under scrutiny.

The top order--Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Cooper Connolly--has lost control. What once looked fearless now appears reckless, with early wickets derailing innings. The middle order hasn't helped either, struggling to build partnerships and leaning too heavily on individual efforts.

Bowling remains Punjab's biggest concern. Even in wins, they've leaked runs at key moments, lacking discipline when it matters most. Against a strong Hyderabad lineup on a batting-friendly pitch, that could prove costly.

Hyderabad, meanwhile, look far more settled. Despite a recent loss, they remain one of the most balanced sides in the tournament. Travis Head has rediscovered form, Abhishek Sharma continues to contribute, and Heinrich Klaasen has been consistently dangerous.

With the ball, the return of captain Pat Cummins has strengthened an already disciplined attack. Bowlers like Eshan Malinga, Praful Hinge, and Sakib Hussain have excelled in the death overs, making Hyderabad one of the best sides at closing innings.

This isn't just another league game. For Punjab, it's about stopping a slide. For Hyderabad, it's a chance to tighten their grip near the top.
