World Champions India suffer a shocking 34-run defeat against Ireland in the first T20 International in Belfast.

A historic moment for Ireland as they register their first ever victory against India in international cricket.

Shreyas Iyer's captaincy tenure gets off the worst possible as India, despite fielding their strongest team, were shocked by an injury-depleted Ireland team.

India's batters came undone as they were bowled out for 148 in 18.5 overs. Abhishek Sharma smashed 50 from 20 balls while Shivam Dube with 25 from 14 balls was the only other batter to score above 20 for the Indians.

In the bowling too, India were below par as they allowed Ireland to post 182/9 despite struggling on 51/4 at one stage.

Moondra doing well to bowl in the perfect channel outside the off-stump and Rana struggling to get bat on ball.

A high bouncer which is ruled a wide for height. Rana swings hard but skies the last ball high as the fielder at long-on puts down a simple chance.

Leg-spinner Gareth Delany comes into the attack, to bowl the 17th over. Axar takes a single first ball down to long-off.

Harshit Rana can't get a run off the next two balls before he manages just one on the off-side.

India's hopes are all but over as Delany dismisses Axar who holes out to long-on for 15.

India slip to 137/8 in the 17th over as Ireland look set for an upset win.

Arshdeep Singh keeps strike with a single from the last ball of the over.

The match is slipping away from India's grasp as they need 45 from the last three overs with just two wickets in hand.

Axar uses his feet but can't beat mid-off for a single. Dube powerfully pulls the short ball but can only get one as the fielder at deep square leg makes a good stop.

Axar can't despatch the pull in the gap for just one before the pacer bowls a wide on the off-side.

Moondra deals India a huge blow as he takes a superb catch off his own bowling to dismiss dangerman Dube for a quickfire 25 from 14 balls.

Moondra reacted quickly after Dube had got the leading edge with the pacer diving forward to take the ball inches from the ground.

Humphreys fires it down the leg side to Axar to concede a wide. The spinner then puts down a tough catch as Axar hammers it straight back.

He seems to have picked up an injury while attempting to take the catch.

The spinner continues with the ball after receiving some treatment despite being struck on his bowling hand.

Singles from the next two balls before Dube launches the last ball into the stands over long-on for a six, to get 14 from the over.

Dube releases the pressure as he lofts spinner Harry Tector over long-on for a six and then takes one off his pads.

Singles off the last four balls as the spinner gives away 11 runs in his third over.

Debutant Hollard bowls another excellent over. The pacer gives away just four runs in his final over to finish with superb figures of 3/28 in his four overs.

India are 115/6 in 14 overs, needing another 68 runs from the last six overs for victory.

India will hope the big-hitting Dube can steer them home in the final few overs.

Sundar went for runs in the single over he bowled and he is now struggling with the bat.

The left-hander plays and misses two balls in a row looking to hit pace bowler Hollard.

He gets the third ball over the covers for two runs and then takes one.

Dube picks a single to take India past 100 in the 12th over. Sundar's painful knock of nine from 12 balls finally ends as he mishits the pull shot and is caught at deep midwicket.

India slip further to find themselves reeling on 100/6 in 12 overs.

A poor shot from Varma under the circumstances as he walks back for a struggling 19 from 21 balls.

India in trouble 90/5 in 10.2 overs with not much batting to follow.

Birthday boy Shivam Dube gets off the mark with a single through the off-side and Sundar takes one off the next.

Dube steers the last ball behind point for a four doing well to get the ball in the gap.

Tector bowls a quiet over giving away four runs in his second over, including a leg bye.

In the next over, McCarthy has a confident shout for leg before wicket turned down against Varma.

Ireland take the DRS as Varma had shuffled across and looks to have been struck in front.

But the ball has pitched outside the line of leg stump and Ireland end up losing their review.

India are 89/4 in 10 overs at the halfway mark. They need another 94 runs from the remaining 10 overs for victory.

Pacer McCarthy back into the attack. Abhishek takes a single to deep square leg to race to his fifty from just 19 balls.

However, he perishes in the same over. Abhishek fails to find the gap as he pulls the short ball from McCarthy to Humphreys at deep midwicket.

Abhishek walks back after a superb knock of 50 from 20 balls, which included seven fours and two sixes.

Left-arm pacer Moondra back into the attack. Shreyas drives the first ball but can't find the gap in the covers and hits the next to the fielder at point.

Shreyas top edges the pull shot for a single and Abhishek slashes the next for another run.

Another dot ball to Shreyas, who picks a single off the last ball, as Moondra bowls an excellent over, conceding just three runs.

Hollard strikes again in his next over. This time he claims the big wicket of India skipper Shreyas, who flicks the pacer straight into the hands of the fielder at deep square leg.

Shreyas walks back for three as India find themselves in slight trouble on 60/3 in the sixth over.

Another superb delivery from Hollard as new batter Tilak Varma gets a thick outside edge with the ball flying fine on the off-side for a four.

Varma is beaten next ball on the outside edge as he pushes away from the body. The left-hander can't get a run off the next two balls before he plays a wonderful drive through the covers for a four.

India are 68/3 in six overs with Abhishek going ballistic in the Powerplay, as he smashed 47 from 16 balls at a strike rate of 282.35.

Debutant Matthew Hollard also strikes in his first over. He gets the key wicket of Ishan Kishan off the second ball. The left-hander gets the leading edge trying to flick and is caught by wicketkeeper Tucker for one.

Ireland have a slight opening as India are reduced to 45/2 in the fourth over.

Shreyas Iyer walks out at No 4. Hollard greets the new India captain with a short ball which is down the leg side and is ruled a wide.

Shreyas gets off the mark with a quick single on the off-side before Abhishek lofts Hollard over mid-off for a four. The pacer has overstepped to give away a no-ball and a free hit which Abhishek makes most by lofting it over the covers for another four.

Pacer Liam McCarthy comes into the attack. Abhishek swats the first ball past the fielder at midwicket for a four and chips the next inside out over covers for two runs.

The next ball is full and wide and this time Abhishek times the inside out shot to perfection, hammering it over the covers for a four.

McCarthy struggling with his control. A short ball angled across is sliced over point by Abhishek for another four before he ramps another half-tracker over the wicketkeeper for the fourth boundary of the over.

A high bouncer is given a wide before Abhishek mistimes the pull shot but it falls just out of reach of the fielder running back at midwicket, as 21 come from the third over.

India 24-1 (2 ovs) vs Ireland 182-9 | SCORECARD

A dream start for debutant Jai Moondra as he strikes with his first ball in international cricket. Samson is bowled off an inside edge as he looks to hit the length ball through the off-side to be dismissed for five.

Ishan Kishan is beaten by some inswing as he misses the clip and is hit on the pads. He then nearly steers the length ball to the short thirdman fielder but it falls just short.

Kishan takes a single through the covers before Abhishek flicks the pacer over square leg for a six and keeps strike with one from the last ball.

Debutant Jai Moondra gets off the mark with a single to long-on. Matthew Humphreys swings across the line but gets it off the bottom edge before he tries the same shot, again off the inside half for one.

Moondra picks another single before Humphreys is run out off the last ball going for an impossible second run to long-off.

Just four runs from the final over as Ireland finish on 182/9 in their 20 overs.

Rana was India's most successful bowler taking 3/24, while Arshdeep (2/28) and Axar (2/33) picked up two wickets each.

Liam McCarthy cuts the short wide ball from Arshdeep over point for a four and takes a single off the fourth ball.

Delany drives Arshdeep straight down the ground for two runs before he falls off the last ball.

Delany mistimes the pull shot off the slower bouncer and is caught at deep square leg to walk back after a handy knock of 49 from 32 balls.

A good outing with the ball for Arshdeep as he finishes with 2/28 from his four overs.

Axar Patel to bowl the 18th over. He checks Ireland's charge with the wicket of the dangerous Dockrell, who looks to slice it over the off-side but gets a thick outside edge and is caught by Arshdeep at point to be dismissed for 19 from 10 balls.

Left-hander Liam Mcarthy misses the reverse sweep before India take the DRS. But the ball has pitched outside the leg stump and the on-field umpire's decision stands.

Good bowling from Axar as he bowls two dot balls in a row to Delany before he picks one off the last ball.

Excellent bowling from Axar as he gives away just four runs in the 18th over, including a leg bye.

Ireland 164-5 (17 ovs) vs India | SCORECARD

Prasidh back into the attack. He starts with an overpitched delivery which Dockrell hammers straight down the ground past mid-off for a four.

Delany joins the party as he also plays a cracking straight drive off Prasidh for another four. 

Prasidh goes short but Delany quick to pick the length as he hammers the pull shot over fine leg for a six. 

Prasidh get a real hammering here. Delany on fire as he then smacks a slower ball back over the pacer's head for a straight six.

Delany makes it a hat-trick of sixes, smashing the last ball over long-on for another maximum.

Prasidh conceded 27 runs in his fourth over, giving away 4 1 4 6 6 6 off his last six balls. He finishes with expensive figures of 57 runs from four overs without a single wicket.

Dockrell and Delany have added 49 runs from 16 balls for the sixth wicket to give Ireland some late impetus.

Off-spinner Washington Sundar comes into the attack to bowl the 16th over.

He bowls a high full toss which George Dockrell smashes for a six. To make matters worse it is ruled a no-ball for height.

The free hit delivery is a wide as Ireland get another extra run before Dockrell sweeps the spinner for a four.

Sundar leaking runs in his first over. Delany makes room to through the off-side but gets a thick outside edge which flies fine past wicketkeeper Samson for a four.

Dube back into the attack. Singles off the first three balls before Tucker pulls the fourth ball through midwicket for a boundary.

He clips the last ball through square leg for two runs to complete a wonderful fifty from just 35 balls. A memorable fifty on his debut as Ireland's permanent T20 captain for Tucker to help the hosts fight back after a horror start in the Powerplay.

Rana back from the other end as India look for a breakthrough. Delany swats the first ball through midwicket for two runs and picks one off the next.

Rana continues his wicket ways, striking with the big wicket of Tucker. The Ireland captain mistimes the pull shot off a slower short ball, hitting it straight to Tilak Varma at deep square leg to be dismissed after a superb knock of 50 from 36 balls.

Rana finishes with excellent figures of 3/24 -- his career-best figures in T20 Internationals.

Spin for the first time as Axar Patel comes into the attack. Tucker and Delany pick singles off the first two balls before the former uses his feet to loft the spinner straight down the ground for a six.

The Ireland captain takes one before Delany lofts the last ball down the ground. It is an easy catch for Abhishek Sharma at long-off but he puts down the chance running to his right.

Prasidh, who was expensive in his first spell with 22 runs from two overs, is back into the attack.

He beats Tucker with a superb delivery before the Ireland skipper shuffles across to scoop Prasidh over the wicketkeeper for a four.

Tucker is hurried into the pull shot as he mistimes the ball on the leg side for two runs and gets one off the next.

Axar Patel misses out a wicket as Washington Sundar misses out a tough chance at long-on. Sundar rushes to his right and at full stretch gets his hand to the ball but fails to hold on, as the ball goes through for a four.

A full toss from Axar as Tucker eases it through the covers for a boundary. 

The last ball is a half-tracker as Tucker pulls it high over square leg for a six to take Ireland past 100, in the 13th over.

The duo have also put on 50-run stand for the fifth wicket from just 35 balls.

Dube starts his second over with a wide down the leg side to Delany. The medium pacer bowls three dots in a row to Tucker, who then manages just a single.

A good slower bouncer from Dube as Delany is beaten attempting to play the pull shot.

Calitz looking to dominate the bowlers perishes against the short ball. He top edges the pull shot and is caught by Prasidh running back from short fine leg.

Gareth Delany gets off the mark with a single before Tucker backs away to slice Dubey over the off-side for a four and picks one to retain strike.

Prasidh Krishna comes into the attack after the Powerplay, he will enjoy bowling on this track.

He makes a good start beating Calitz on the outside edge first ball. He is hurried into the pull shot next ball, getting a big fat top edge which sails over fine leg for a six.

The left-hander then steps out of his crease to loft Prasidh straight back over his head for the second six of the over to bring up Ireland's 50.

Arshdeep to bowl his third over in the Powerplay. Captain Lorcan Tucker watchful as he keeps out the first two balls before he attempts the scoop but the ball goes fine off his gloves for two runs.

Tucker blocks the next two deliveries before taking a single off the last ball to keep strike.

Arshdeep has done well in the Powerplay, taking 1/18 in three overs.

Rana will also bowl his third over in the Powerplay. He starts with a wide before Tucker clips the next ball on the leg side for a single.

Left-hander Calitz throws his bat at a wide length delivery but is beaten before he plays and misses again next ball.

Calitz edges the fifth ball to thirdman for a single before Tucker swings across the line looking to heave it over midwicket but misses.

Terrific bowling from Rana, getting extra bounce and some movement to beat Tucker on the outside edge this time. He has done well with the new ball, taking 2/18 in three overs.

Ireland reeling on 36/3 in six overs with India's pacers making most of bowling first on a pitch with some assistance for the new ball.

The Tector brothers are back in the pavilion in successive overs. Rana strikes again in his second over with the wicket of Tim Tector, who is caught by Shreyas Iyer at mid-off after scoring 17 from 12 balls.

Ireland's aggressive tactics not working against India's seamers as they slip to 30/3 in the fourth over.

Benjamin Calitz keeps out the last two balls to end a superb over from Rana.

Rana started his spell with two successive boundaries but in the next 10 balls picked up two wickets for seven runs.

Nearly another wicket for India but Shivam Dube puts down a tough catch running back from mid-on. Tim Tector had failed to get hold of the pull shot off Arshdeep Singh as the ball went uppishly.

Dube running back from mid-on covered good ground and got his hands to the ball but failed to hold on and also ended up conceding a four.

And to make matters worse he has ended up breaking his glasses to make it a very costly drop for Dube.

Arshdeep strikes with the last ball of the over as Harry Tector gets the edge attempting to drive the full delivery angle across. Wicketkeeper Samson completes another easy catch to dismiss Tector for a duck.

Rana strikes; Ireland lose early wicket

Harshit Rana back from injury takes the new ball from the other end. Adair throws his bat at the first ball pitched wide but it goes off the outside half over the slip fielder for a four.

The next ball is short but this time on the stumps as Adair pulls it off the middle over midwicket for another four.

Rana strikes in his first over as Adair miscues it high and is caught by wicketkeeper Sanju Samson for 12. The right-hander looks to pull the short ball over midwicket but can only manage the top edge and Samson takes a well judged catch.

Harry Tector walks out at No 3 to join his brother Tim. He keeps out the last ball to end a good first over from Rana.

Arshdeep Singh will open the bowling for India while Tim Tector and Ross Adair are the two openers for hosts Ireland.

Arshdeep starts with a full toss as Tector pushes it towards the fielder at covers before he takes one next ball to get off the mark.

Arshdeep bowls a beauty to beat Adair on the outside edge as he gets some sharp away movement. Adair has a big swing next ball but fails to connect.

Adair makes room and looks to swing it across the line but it goes off the inside edge for three runs.

The last ball is short as Tector smashes it over powerfully over square leg for a six.

Shreyas Iyer's maiden outing as India's T20 captain


Shreyas Iyer makes his debut as India's T20 captain. He reveals that India are going in with three genuine seamers, one all-rounder, and two spinners.

Shivam Dube is the all-rounder, while Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are the two spinners.

Hosts Ireland also have a new captain with Lorcan Tucker taking over the reigns on a permanent basis.

India win toss, elect to bowl vs Ireland

India captain Shreyas Iyer has won the toss and elected to bowl against Ireland in the first T20 International in Belfast on Friday.

The big news is that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has not been included with India opting to continue with their regular opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma.

'Unfortunately, he (Sooryavanshi) is not included. He is a gun player but we have some tremendous players who have done well for us we are backing them.

He will get his opportunity when the time comes,' said Iyer at the toss.
