SA in control with a massive 314-run lead

SA 26-0 (8 Ovs) and 489 vs India 201 | SCORECARD

South Africa are firmly in the driver's seat as they get to 26 for no loss at close of play on Day 3. 

They have a 314-run lead.  

Jansen used the short ball to good effect to have the Indian batters in all sorts of trouble and finish with a six-wicket haul to have India all out for 201 in the 1st innings.

Spinner Simon Harmer also chipped in with three wickets.

Jaiswal was India's top-scorer with 58, followed by Sundar who was dismissed for 48. 


Kuldeep continues and Markram starts the over with a single to the leg side.

A dot later, Rickelton punches the ball to long off for a single.

Three dots to end the over as 2 come off it. Stumps called on Day 3. Bad light comes into play.

Markram then edges the next ball, good length and nipping away and Rahul gets his finger tips to it as the ball runs to the third man boundary.

Jansen gets six wicket; SA won't enforce follow-on

India 201 (83.5 Ovs) vs SA 489 | SCORECARD


India were all out for 201 in reply to South Africa's first innings total of 489 as the home team suffered a batting collapse on the third day of the second Test in Guwahati on Monday.

Washington Sunder and Kuldeep Yadav put on a stubborn resistance after India were reduced to 122 for 7 in the second session, stitching a 72-run partnership for the eight wicket before the former was out for 48 off 92 balls.

South Africa then wrapped up the two remaining Indian wickets, bowling the home side out in 83.5 overs to take a massive first innings lead of 288 runs. Kuldeep was out for 19 off 134 balls after the Proteas took the new ball in the final session of the day.  

Marco Jansen was the wrecker in chief with figures of 6/48 while Simon Harmer took three wickets for 64 runs.

At lunch, India were struggling at 174 for 7 in 67 overs. 

Except for Yashasvi Jaiswal (58 off 97 balls) and Washington, no Indian batter could contribute substantially after starting the day at 9 for no loss.

Four Indian wickets tumbled in the opening session, reaching 102 for 4 at tea. Three more Indian batters fell in the second session.

Without the eighth-wicket stand between Washington and Kuldeep, India would have been in much deeper trouble.

KL Rahul (22), Sai Sudharsan (15), Dhruv Jurel (0), captain Rishabh Pant (7), Ravindra Jadeja (6) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (10) fell cheaply.

Jansen back in the attack and he bowls a maiden as Kuldeep sees it off safely. This is the last over with the old ball.

Bumrah is the new man in and he is tested as he plays five dots. Wicket maiden by Harmer.


Harmer continues and he strikes! He bowls a short one on off stump  that turns away, Sundar is caught on the crease as he tries to drive, gets the outside edge and is caught at first slip. Sundar out for 48.  The 72-run stand is broken.

Markram continues and after a dot, Sundar goes on the backfoot and punches it wide of cover for a four!

He cuts the next ball to backward point for a couple.

A single next before Kuldeep plays two dots to end the over. Kuldeep has hurt his hand as the ball hit him on the left hand off that last ball of the over. The physio has a look at it and he is good to continue.

India are 174 for 7 at lunch on Day 3 of the 2nd Test in Guwahati. 

India still trail by 315 runs.

Jansen tested the Indians with some short stuff as he picked up three wickets of Pant, Reddy and Jadeja to have India reeling at 122 for 7.

India gain some ground as Washington Sundar (33) and Kuldeep Yadav (14) put on an unbeaten 52-run stand. They showed some application and batted watchfully. 




Markram continues and Sundar starts the over with a single to long on.

A dot later, Kuldeep takes a single to backward point to bring up the 50-run stand.

The next ball flies off the bat-pad off Sundar, away from de Zorzi at short leg.

India are 102 for 4 at tea on Day 3 of the 2nd Test in Guwahati on Monday.

India trail by 387 runs as Pant and Jadeja are at the crease going into tea.

93 runs came at the loss of 4 wickets for India as SA spinners tested the batters. 

Jaiswal got to his half-century before India lost wickets in a clump.

Maharaj struck first after removing Rahul caught at slip before Jaiswal, Sudharsan and Jurel fell inside four overs. 




Jadeja is the new man in and Jansen bowls it down the leg, Jadeja misses the flick.

Jadeja then gets under the short bouncer. 

Jadeja then defends the ball down for a dot. And tea called as India trailed by 387 runs.



Jansen continues and he bowls two good length balls. After two dots, Jansen bowls it short and across the batter who tries to pull, doesn't get much on it and it caught nicely by Maharaj, running back from mid on. Jurel out for a duck and India now lose their 4th wicket.  


Captain Rishabh Pant is the new man in and after a dot, he gets to the pitch of the ball and smashes the ball over the bowler's head for a six to get off the mark and bring up India's 100.

Marco Jansen opens the proceedings for South Africa with KL Rahul on strike and after 5 good balls, Jansen bowls a half-volley, Rahul latches on to it and smashes it through covers for a four. Four runs come off the opening day on Day 3. 

The pitch is expected to slow down but will not pose troubles to the batters.

Senuran Muthusamy's maiden Test hundred and a career-best 93 by Marco Jansen powered South Africa to a commanding first innings total of 489 and in charge of the second and final Test against India in Guwahati on Sunday.

 
On a surface offering little assistance for bowlers, South Africa's top order had frittered away starts but number seven Muthusamy marshalled a lower-order surge with a composed 109.

The left-hander struck 10 fours and two sixes, first steadying the innings alongside Kyle Verreynne (45) and then accelerating in a bruising stand with number nine Jansen that wrested the initiative.

India were nine for no loss when bad light stopped second day's play with the hosts trailing by 480 runs.

They will expect a strong start from Yashasvi Jaiswal (seven) and KL Rahul (two) when the openers resume their innings on Monday.
