Just what we were afraid of. The ICC World Cup warm-up match between India and The Netherlands has been abandoned due to rain. 

About 45 minutes ago, the covers had come off with the rains gone. 

But with the rain returning, the umpires decided to call it a day.

With both of India's warm-up matches rained out, India go into the World Cup with a mini-break and face Australia in the World Cup opener on October 8 in Chennai.

Rain finally stops in Thiruvananthapuram

In some good news coming in from Greenfield Stadium, the rain has stopped and update from the umpires in likely in the next 10 minutes.


The ground is covered and with a sprinkle of showers around Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, the toss for the World Cup warm-up match between India and The Netherlands has been delayed.

With rains and continuous drizzle, coupled with dark clouds hanging over the city, the match is likely to have a delayed start. 

The World Cup warm-up match against the Dutch will be the last chance for India to get some game time before the start of tournament proper against Australia in Chennai on October 8.

On Monday, the Indians had a full-fledged session with Gill, Surya and KL Rahul batting for a considerable amount of time against the likes of Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.

Ashwin and Jadeja also rolled their arm over for considerable period of time as they both are going to play a massive role in this World Cup on tracks which are expected to offer turn.

India's star batter Virat Kohli didn't join the team's optional practice session in Thiruvananthapuram due to personal reasons but is expected to link up with the squad before the second warm-up game against The Netherlands on Tuesday.

Kohli had left for Mumbai from Guwahati for some emergency personal reasons on September 30 and wasn't available for the afternoon training session at the local college ground in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.

Avesh to bowl the 19th over. Karan KC lofts the second ball over long-on for a six and top edges the next which flies over the wicketkeeper for a four.

Avesh deceives Karan with the slower ball who then takes a single from the last ball.

Avesh ends his spell with the wicket of Lamichhane who is caught at long-on for five.

A good outing with the ball for Avesh, who finishes with 3/32 in four overs.

Dube to bowl the final over with Nepal needing five sixes for victory. He starts with a yorker which Karan defends back to the bowler and swings and misses off the next.

A good yorker by Dube from round the wicket as the right-hander defends before he plays and misses again.

Karan can't get bat on ball in the final over as he misses again but he swings the last ball for a six.

India win by 23 runs to enter the semi-finals of the Asia Cup.

Avesh is back into the attack. Gulsan Jha hits the second ball over the off-side for a boundary before he misses the pull shot and then takes a single.

Kami is beaten by the slower ball as it bounces just short of the wicketkeeper who fails to collect it, and ends up conceding four byes.

Avesh strikes with the last ball of the over, as Kami mistimes the lofted shot and Sai Kishore takes a superb catch diving forward at long-on.

The wickets keep tumbling for Nepal. Arshdeep gets Gulsan caught at long-on for six as Nepal lose their eighth wicket.

Poor effort from Bishnoi at long-on as he tries to stop the ball on the bounce to concede a boundary.

Arshdeep won't enjoy that fielding lapse as he finishes with 2/43 in four overs.

Bishnoi ends Nepal's hopes with the wicket of the dangerous Dipendra after a quickfire 32 from 15 balls.

The right-hander mistimes the pull shot and is caught at long-on by Sai Kishore as Nepal lose their fifth wicket.

Jora plays a beautiful sweep shot, hitting Bishnoi in the gap through square leg for a four but can't make good connection with the pull and gets just a single.

Bishnoi finishes with wonderful figures of 3/24 in four overs.

The equation getting difficult for Nepal, who need 75 from five overs for victory.

Arshdeep is back into the attack. Jora lofts the first ball back over the bowler's head for a six over long-on.

Jora is then beaten trying to ramp the short ball over the wicketkeeper.

Arshdeep from round the wicket bowls a short ball which Jora pulls over midwicket for a six.

Some relief for the struggling Arshdeep as Jora holes out to long-off to walk back after a good hand of 29 from 12 balls.

Nepal fight back but India on top

Medium pacer Shivam Dube comes into the attack. Dipendra gets a big fat top edge looking to play the pull shot as the ball flies over fine leg for a six.

He clips the third ball for a single before Sandeep Jora inside edges the next for two runs followed by a single.

Dipendra is surprised by the short ball from Dube which bounces quite a bit and the ball goes off the helmet as the right-hander misses the pull shot.

Sai Kishore is back into the attack, to bowl his fourth and final over. Dipendra attempts the reverse sweep which he misses and gets a leg bye before Jora also tries the same shot. The ball goes towards point as the batters run across for a quick single but an overthrow gets them another extra run.

Singles off the next two before Dipendra makes room and plays a cracking inside out shot over the off-side for a six, which spoil his figures somewhat.

Sai Kishore finishes with respectable figures of 1/25 in four overs.

In the next over, Dipendra continues to attack as he pulls Dube for a six over fine leg.

Dube follows it up with another short ball and this time the right-hander smacks it over square leg for another six.

India will do well to remember that Dipendra holds the record for the fastest fifty in T20 Internationals, when he slammed fifty from just nine balls against Mongolia in the Asia Cup.

Dipendra continues his assault as he comes down and swings the slower ball from Dube over midwicket to complete a hat-trick of sixes.

Dube bowls full as Dipendra flicks it through midwicket to pick up two runs and clips the last ball for a single to retain strike.

Nepal still in the hunt with 84 needed from six overs.

Off-spinner Washington Sundar comes into the attack. Left-hander Malla plays a nice drive through the off-side for two runs. He slog sweeps the next high over midwicket for a six but is beaten off the third ball.

He picks a single next ball off an inside edge before Paudel gets it behind square on the leg side for two runs and is hit on the pads next ball.

Nepal are 73/2 in 10 overs at the halfway mark, needing another 130 from 10 overs for victory.

Bishnoi comes back into the attack. He bags the wicket of Malla (29) courtesy of a sensational relay catch from substitute Rahul Tripathi.

Tripathi runs across his left at long-on and takes the catch but the momentum is carrying him over and he manages to flick the ball to Rinku at long-off, who holds on to the catch.

Dipendra Singh Airee hits the next ball over the off-side as it lands just short of the fielder at deep point.

Bishnoi picks up another wicket in the over. Paudel shuffles across a long way looking to clip it on the leg side but is beaten by the googly and caught plumb in front for three.

R Sai Kishore back into the attack. Singles from the first two balls before Bhurtel tries the sweep but is beaten two balls in a row. The next ball turns away sharply beating the right-hander who comes forward to defend.

The last ball turns into Bhurtel who fails to read it and is struck on the pads.

Bishnoi from the other end. He starts with the googly as left-hander Malla is beaten before he takes a single and his partner takes one off the next.

Malla goes for the slog over midwicket but gets the top edge which flies over the slip fielder for a four followed by a single.

In the next over, Malla finally makes some clean connection as he slog sweeps Sai Kishore for a big six over midwicket.

Sai Kishore shortens his length as Malla gets it off the outside half before he misses the paddle sweep.

He connect with the shot next ball but the connection is off the middle with the ball going to deep square leg.

Sai Kishore bags his first international wicket as Bhurtel attempts the lap sweep but is caught by the fielder at fine leg for 28.

Nepal need 141 from 11 overs for victory as the asking rate goes above 12.

Arshdeep is back into the attack. Bhurtel attempts the reverse paddle but misses before he tries to smash the next over point and is beaten again.

Arshdeep tries the change of pace but Bhurtel makes room and smashes the slower ball over point for a huge six which lands on the road outside the ground.

The right-hander plays a superb straight drive off the last ball beating the fielder at mid-on for a four.

Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi comes into the attack. Malla slogs the second ball over midwicket for a four before he is beaten by the googly which turns the other way and goes past the edge.

He sweeps the fourth ball fine for a single and Bhurtel makes room but hits it straight to the fielder at point and manages a leg bye off the last ball.

Nepal off to an encouraging start, as they reach 46/1 in six overs, with Bhurtel on 26 and Malla on five.

Debutant left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore into the attack. He was quite emotional at the national anthem, he was in tears ahead of his India debut.

Bhurtel sweeps the first ball but can't find the gap before he slashes the next over point for a four.

Bhurtel looks to smash it down the ground but fails to connect properly for two runs down the ground followed by two dot balls.

Avesh continues from the other end. Sheikh makes room to slash the pacer square on the off-side for a six over point.

But Avesh gets revenge two balls later as he Sheikh is caught behind for 10. He again makes room and looks to smash it through the off-side but the ball takes edge and is caught behind by wicketkeeper Jitesh.

Left-hander Kushal Malla is greeted by a high bouncer which is ruled a wide and he is beaten next ball poking at one away from the stumps and plays and misses again last ball.

Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh are the two openers for Nepal, while Arshdeep Singh will open the bowling for India.

Arshdeep starts with a wide down the leg side to Bhurtel, who then smashes the second ball past point for a couple of runs to get off the mark.

Bhurtel attempts the scoop which he misses but the umpires rules it a wide before the batter takes a single to thirdman.

Another wide from Arshdeep and Sheikh can't get a run off the last ball.

Pacer Avesh Khan from the other end. Bhurtel effects the scoop to good effect, getting a boundary from the first ball before he gets a leading edge next ball and is then beaten trying to cut it past point.

Bhurtel gets a single before Sheikh edges the last ball which flies fine for a boundary.

Pacer Bohara to bowl the final over. He starts with a short wide delivery which Rinku slashes over point for a four.

The next ball is a low full toss and Rinku manages to sweep it over midwicket for a six.

Bohara goes full and Rinku does well to use his wrist to steer it uppishly over point for a four.

Rinku inside edges the fourth ball as it narrowly misses the stumps and the Indians steal a quick run as the ball goes on the bounce to the wicketkeeper.

The pacer bowls a wide and Rinku forces his partner to steal another run courtesy of the bye with the wicketkeeper missing the direct hit.

Rinku back on strike! He smashes the wide toss over the cover region for a six to bring up India's 200 and raise the 50-run stand from just 21 balls.

Rinku lofts the last ball down the ground as Airee leaps high and takes the catch and this time he manages to flick the ball back before his feet touches the ground, to save the six and end up giving away just two runs.

India finish on a huge 202/4 in their 20 overs, with 25 coming from the last over.

Rinku played a delightful cameo of 37 from 15 balls to provide the boost at the end, while Dube made 25 from 19 balls.

Rink steers the last ball straight to the fielder at point as Bohara makes a good comeback after the six with three dot balls in a row, to concede just seven from the over.

Off-spinner Paudel to bowl the 19th over. Dube mistimes the loft for a single before Rinku swings the next over square leg for a six as the fielder takes the catch as he goes over the ropes and flicks the ball inside but his feet has touched the ground.

Rinku takes a single before Dube hammers the fourth ball straight back past the bowler for a flat six over long-off.

Dube has a mighty swing across the line but is beaten as the ball bounces over the stumps. He plays and misses again as he looks to heave the spinner across the line over the leg side.

The umpires want to have a look at the replays whether it was a high full toss but the batter was out of his crease a long way and the full toss was clearly down the waistline.

Jaiswal walks back after an entertaining knock of 100 from 49 balls, hitting seven sixes and eight fours.

Rinku Singh gets off the mark with a single and Dube steers the next past point for a four followed by one down to long-on.

A good spell from Airee as he finishes with 2/32 from his four overs.

He pulls the third ball to midwicket for a single before Jaiswal shuffles across and scoops the pacer for a four over fine leg.

Jaiswal celebrates his century thinking it is a six but replays confirm that the ball bounced just short of the ropes and is ruled a four.

The left-hander taps the next ball on the leg side for a four and once again celebrates his century which has come from just 48 balls.

What a terrific knock from the youngster as he continues his dream start in international cricket.

After conceding just three singles from the first four balls, Jitesh looks to attack the spinner.

He comes down the track and looks to smash it over midwicket but gets the leading edge which goes high and is taken by the bowler.

Jitesh walks back after scoring just five runs as India lose their third wicket.

Another left-hander Shivam Dube walks in at No 5 and he watchfully keeps out the last ball.

Pacer Bohara is back into the attack. Singles from the first two balls before Jaiswal smashes the third over the covers for a four.

He slog sweeps the next ball high over midwicket to take his score into the 90s -- 92 from 43 balls.

A single to Jaiswal before Shivam Dube gently drives a full toss down to long-on for another run, to get 14 runs from the over.

Paudel continues with the ball. A single to Dube off the first ball before Jaiswal drives the next through the covers for one to take his score to 94.

Paudel keeps it tight, full and on the stumps, as Jaiswal taps it on the leg side for one and Dube uses his feet but can only defend it back to the bowler.

He does well to start with four dot balls in a row to new batter Tilak Varma, who takes a risky single off the fifth into the covers.

Jaiswal is clearly unhappy with the call as a better throw could have seen him getting run out and he makes his displeasure clear to his partner.

Jaiswal makes up for a couple of tight overs as he comes down and launches the spinner over the off-side for a six.

Pacer Sompal Kami back for his second spell. Varma defends the first ball before he is beaten trying to slash it over point as the pacer gets it to bounce a bit more.

The third ball is full and on the stumps as Varma defends before his painstaking knock comes to an end!

The left-hander looks to pull the short ball but ends up dragging the ball back on to his stumps to be bowled for two from 10 balls.

Kami gets the ball to bounce from length as Jitesh Sharma is struck on the gloves looking to defend and looks in some pain after that blow.

Kami slips the next ball down the leg side which is ruled a wide before Jitesh steps out and gets the ball over point for a boundary to get off the mark.

Lamichhane continues from the other end. Gaikwad pushes the first ball to the fielder at point before the India captain plays a beautiful inside out shot over the covers for a four.

He comes down the track and slaps the next wide of long-off for two runs.

Lamichhane gets the ball tot run into Gaikwad, who looks to cut but can only get a single on the off-side and Jaiswal hits the next to long-on for one.

Gaikwad plays another cracking inside out shot for the second four of the over.

Off-spinner Airee into the attack now. Jaiswal hammers the first ball back past the bowler for a boundary to bring up India's 100, in 9.1 overs.

Jaiswal cuts the next past the fielder at point for two runs before he survives a close shout for leg before wicket after he misses the slog sweep.

Airee finally gives Nepal something to smile about with the wicket of Gaikwad.

The India captain, who played a subdued innings of 25 from 23 balls, looks to swing the spinner across the line but holes out to deep midwicket.

Gaikwad and Jaiswal put on 103 runs for the opening wicket from 59 balls with the latter dominating the partnership.

Two left-handers in the middle as Tilak Varma joins Jaiswal in the middle.

A single off the last ball as India race to 104/1 in 10 overs at the halfway mark.

He starts with a full delivery on the stumps which Jaiswal defends followed by two runs off the next.

Jaiswal comes down the track and smashes the spinner over long-off for a six to bring up his fifty in some style from just 22 balls.

The left-hander reverse sweeps the next delivery past short thirdman for a boundary.

Jaiswal defends the next before he uses his feet to push the spinner into the covers for a single.

Karan KC is back into the attack. Jaiswal shuffles across and attempts the scoop but is unable to connect.

The next ball is carved over the cover region for a boundary as the pacer goes full and wide.

The pacer goes short and wide and this time Jaiswal slashes it over point for another four.

Jaiswal uses his feet but can only dig out the yorker before Karan bowls from well behind the bowling crease as the India opener has a swing and misses courtesy of some extra bounce.

Jaiswal is unable to make good connection with the last ball, a low full toss, as he gets the inside edge.

Medium pacer Abinash Bahar into the attack as Nepal look to somehow make a comeback after India's fiery start.

Gaikwad happy to turn the strike over with a quick single on the off-side.

Jaiswal continues to attack as he smashes a short wide delivery past point for a four to race to 42 from 15 balls.

Bohara bowls a good yorker which Jaiswal defends on the off-side for a single and Gaikwad is beaten by some away swing.

Another dot ball before Gaikwad drives the last ball to the covers where the fielder misfields to concede a single.

Off-spinner Airee continues. Gaikwad struggling with his timing as he looks to swing the spinner over the leg side but fails to make good connection as the ball goes high but well short of long-on.

A single takes Gaikwaid's score to 14 from 16 balls, while Jaiswal has smashed 42 from the same number of balls.

Airee bowling it flat and straight to Jaiswal, who is unable to get a run from the next two balls and then gets an inside edge for another run.

Airee ends the over with a good stop off his bowling for the fourth dot of over as he concedes just two runs from his second over.

Gaikwad picks one off the next before Jaiswal breaks the shackles as he smashes Karan back over his head for a straight six and pulls the next for another six over square leg.

India win toss; elect to bat vs Nepal


India captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has won the toss and elected to bat against Nepal in the opening T20 match at the Asian Games on Tuesday.

The Indian playing XI will see some of the young top performers from IPL including Rinku Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube and others.

Nepal, who broke several records during their opening game against Mongolia, will be looking to put in a good performance.
