Match Abandoned due to rain

India vs SA (Match Abandoned) Series Tied (2-2) | Scorecard

India and South Africa shared honours in the five-match T20I series after the last game here on Sunday was called off due to rain with only 3.3 overs of play possible.

India and South Africa were on level terms at 2-2 after four matches.

After being put into bat, a steady downpour delayed the game by 50 minutes. It started raining just when the game was about to start.

The curtailed match did start at 7:50PM but was called off after only 16 minutes of play in which India managed 28 runs for the loss of two wickets.

Lungi Ngidi got both the wickets of Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad with a couple of slower deliveries.

Kishan hit two sixes off Kehsav Maharaj's opening over but was undone by a loopy slower delivery from Ngidi as he committed to the shot early and played all over it.

Gaikwad also failed to pick up a slower delivery and was holed out at mid-on before the heavens opened up again to stop the series decider.

Cut-off time to resume is 10:02 PM

The Match Umpires have confirmed that a) the match cannot be restarted until the rain stops completely and b) It may take approximately 20-30 minutes to get the outfield and pitch ready once the raining stops.

At present, the cut-off time is 10:02 PM for a reduced 5-over game which would be a real shame considering that this was building up to be a series decider.

Rain continues to suspend play

Showers continue to wet the turf at the Chinnaswamy stadium and the teams are now playing a waiting game to get back into action.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has decided to give the Ireland-bound Indian T20 squad, led by Hardik Pandya, a three-day break before it leaves for the two-match series in Malahide.

While Rahul Dravid, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant will be taking an early morning flight on Monday for London, the BCCI wants its T20 specialists to take a short break.

"All the players selected for the Ireland T20s are going home for a three-day break. Although there is no bio-bubble they didn't have families with them for the series and some are playing non-stop since IPL.

"It's only fair that they spend some time at home," a senior BCCI source told PTI on Sunday.

It is understood that all the members of the Ireland-bound squad will assemble in Mumbai on June 23 along with NCA head VVS Laxman and his team of support staff.

"Laxman and the players will be in Mumbai by 23rd and they will leave the next day for Dublin. Since they are already coming from a series, you don't need time to get into the groove. Also it's a two-match series, so you won't be needing a lot of time to acclimatise," he explained.

The T20I party, after playing the two games in Malahide on June 26 and 28, will move to the UK for T20 practice matches, which will coincide with the Test team's 'fifth' game from last year in Edgbaston from July 1-5.

Rabada is introduced to bowl the third over.

Starts off with three dots before Gaikwad finally gets into his grooves with a FOUR off the fourth delivery of the over. Just outside off and it is pulled over mid-wicket for a boundary.

Another single to close out the over as Gaikwad directs the ball towards third man.

On to the fourth over and Ngidi continues.

Two off the first ball as Gaikwad charges down the pitch and cuts the ball towards backward point.

WICKET! Gaikwad falls after a ridiculous shot and skies the ball following yet another slower ball by Ngidi ... Pretorius makes the catch and India are now two wickets down.

Pant is the new man in and immediately gets off the mark with a single.

All of a sudden, the showers are back and the game is going to get delayed for the second time this evening.

Acting Captain Keshav Maharaj comes in to bowl the first over.

Gaikwad and Kishan to open the batting for India.

The first ball is pitched up and Gaikwad is immediately off the mark with a single.

Kishan on strike now and gets off the mark in spectacular style with two back-to-back SIXES off the second and third deliveries. Gets down on on knee and sweep-slogs the balls over mid-wicket to get India off to a quick start.

Two runs off the fourth ball as Kishan cuts the ball on the offside before scoring two singles to close out the over.

At the end of 1 over, India is 16/0.

On to the second over and Ngidi is the new bowler.

Starts off with a dot before the batters squeeze in three runs off the next three balls.

The fifth ball is a slower one but Gaikwad is quick to spot it and directs it away for a single.

WICKET! Ishant Kishan is completely out-foxed by the slower delivery and his stumps are rattled by the off-cutter. Clean Bowled!

Kishan is gone for 15 off 7 balls as India lose their first wicket.
