Xerox Modicorp has firmed up plans to venture into Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The company is at present gathering information on the segments in which it will operate from these markets. "This would be followed by identifying channel partners," said Anand Rahalkar, channels director, Xerox Modicorp.

As of now Xerox does not have any presence in these countries and neither does it sell any products directly from India.

"We have been receiving queries on a regular basis from these countries, but we would like to commence marketing and operation only after we have put in place a firm delivery channel, coupled with servicing infrastructure," he said.

"Our operations in these countries would be controlled from India with distributors acting as points of presence. We are trying to gauge the size of the market and the competition we are likely to face there," he said.

Back home, Xerox, which tied up with Ingram Micro for strengthening its channel business, hopes to generate 50 per cent of its revenue from the channel business by 2006.

The channel business currently contributes 12 per cent to its revenues. The company had registered a $98 million turnover in 2003. This year Xerox hopes to register a $132 million turnover, of which around 18 per cent would be from channel sales.

At present its channel business concentrates on fax machines, laser printers and multi-functional printers. Plans are on to include more new products in the channel business as well as transfer a portion of its existing products to the segment.
