The Tata Group has become the first private industrial house to pierce the Rs 100,000 crore market capitalisation mark and in the process overtake the market leader, state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Commission.
Tatas achieved this distinction after the listing of its flagship company Tata Consultancy Services, company officials said in Delhi on Sunday.
The market capitalisation of all the listed companies of Tatas was at Rs 102,838 crore as on September 10, after peaking at Rs 103,125 crore on September 8.
ONGC's market capitalisation was Rs 99,395 crore as per the closing price of its scrip on the BSE on September 10.
Giving details of top 50 companies in terms of market capitalisation, Tata sources said that the group lead the tally with four companies -- TCS, Tata Motors, Tata Steel and Tata Power, followed by three from the Reliance group -- Reliance Industries, Reliance Energy and IPCL and two from the A V Birla Group -- Hindalco and Grasim.
The TCS share, which was listed at the bourses in August, was ruling at around Rs 980 per share. Ever since its listing, the Tata Group's market capitalisation has been hovering around Rs 100,000 crore.
