Sensex zooms 162 points to 8,471

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 24 points at 8,333, which turned out to be the low for the day.

Sustained buying across-the-board saw the index zoom to a high of 8,484 - a rally of 175 points from Thursday's close of 8,309.

The Sensex finally closed with a gain of 1.95% (162 points) at 8,471.

The Nifty gained 48 points to 2,549.

Hero Honda zoomed 4.7% (Rs 36) to Rs 809. Bajaj gained nearly  4% (Rs 71) to Rs 1,873. Tata Motors was up over 3% (Rs 15) at Rs 514.

Wipro advanced 5% (Rs 19) to Rs 404. Satyam added over 3% (Rs 21) to Rs 652. While Infosys gained 1% (Rs 26) to Rs 2,682, TCS was up Rs 15 at Rs 1,484.

SBI gained 2.6% (Rs 22) to Rs 871. Reliance moved past the Rs 800-mark in noon deals, but finally closed with a gain of Rs 10 at Rs 796.

ONGC was up Rs 6 at Rs 980. HLL gained Rs 3 to Rs 172.

Dr. Reddy's gained 2.6% (Rs 24) to Rs 939. While Ranbaxy was up Rs 6 at Rs 382, Cipla was up Rs 4 at Rs 380.

NTPC zoomed over 4% (Rs 4) to Rs 104. BHEL added 3.8% (Rs 47) to Rs 1,295. L&T moved up 2.7% (Rs 42) to Rs 1,576. Tata Power was up Rs 13 at Rs 438.

Bharti added Rs 10 to Rs 353. HDFC was up Rs 15 at Rs 1,050. HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, ACC and Grasim also finished with gains.
