Sensex gains 58 points at close

The Sensex, which edged past the 5,900-mark towards the closing hours to touch a high of 5,901, ended 58 points higher at 5,891. The Nifty gained 18 points to close at 1,853.

HLL rose 3.19% (Rs 4) to Rs 133. While ITC was up a per cent (Rs 9) at Rs 1,127, Reliance ended with a steady gain of Rs 2 at Rs 540.

HPCL soared 7.21% (Rs 23) to Rs 342. ONGC added 1.44% (Rs 11) to Rs 807.

SBI flared up 3.53% (Rs 17) to Rs 498. While HDFC Bank moved up 2.21% (Rs 9) to Rs 432, ICICI Bank gained 3.11% (Rs 10) to Rs 319.

Wipro jumped 2.41% (Rs 16) to Rs 687. Satyam bounced back into the green towards the closing hours, and logged 1.26% gains (Rs 5) to Rs 393. Infosys, however, ended weak with a per cent loss (Rs 12) at Rs 1,976.

L&T advanced 2.17% (Rs 18) to Rs 842. Zee lost 2.28% (Rs 3) to Rs 150.

Auto,

cement and pharma stocks ended on a mixed note.
