Sensex sheds 41 points at close

The Sensex shed 41 points to close at 5,677. The Nifty was down 24 points at 1,784.

Following impressive Q2 results Infosys zoomed to an intra-day high of 1,745 in the early morning deals.

However, all-round selling in the markets saw the scrip pare gains but still finish 1.6% higher (Rs 27) at Rs 1,712. The counter clocked a hefty combined (BSE+NSE) volume of around 32.43 lakh shares today.

While Satyam was up a rupee at Rs 389, Wipro closed Rs 4 lower at Rs 626.

Reliance slumped over 2% (Rs 12) to Rs 535. While ITC was up a rupee at Rs 1,110, HLL dropped a per cent to Rs 127.

HPCL and ONGC slipped 1.8% each to Rs 318 and Rs 792, respectively. ICICI Bank was up 1.6% (Rs 3) at Rs 289. While SBI declined 2.2% (Rs 11) to Rs 469, HDFC Bank shed 2% (Rs 8) at Rs 400.

Tisco shed nearly 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 294, and Hindalco was down a per cent (Rs 15) to Rs 1,328.  Bhel gained a per cent (Rs 6) at Rs 623.  HDFC advanced 1.4% (Rs 10) to Rs 690.

Tata Motors tumbled 2% (Rs 9) to Rs 407, and Bajaj Auto declined 1.4% (Rs 14) to Rs 995. Hero Honda and Maruti also ended lower at Rs 426 and Rs 358, respectively.

ACC crashed 2.4% (Rs 7) to Rs 269. Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja collapsed around 2% each to Rs 1,150 and Rs 357, respectively.

Pharma stocks finished on a mixed note today. Ranbaxy moved up a per cent (Rs 13) to Rs 1,076. However, Cipla and Dr Reddy's declined a per cent each to Rs 285 and Rs 754, respectively.

While Tata Power declined 1.8% (Rs 6) to Rs 316, Reliance Energy was down a rupee at Rs 659.  Bharti Tele dropped 3.3% (Rs 5) to Rs 152. Zee was down 1.8% (Rs 3) at Rs 155.

Sensex @ 1420 hrs

The Sensex slipped to an new intra-day low of 5,684, and is now down 23 points at 5,695. The Nifty is at 1,793 - down 15 points.

Infosys has pared some gains and is now up 1.7% (Rs 29) at Rs 1,714. While Satyam is steady at Rs 391, Wipro has recovered a bit and is now down Rs 5 at Rs 625.

Reliance has slumped 1.7% (Rs 9) to Rs 537. HLL and ITC are steady at Rs 127 and Rs 1,105, respectively.

ICICI Bank is firm with a gain of 1.4% (Rs 4) at Rs 290. However, HDFC Bank and SBI have moved down 1.5% each to Rs 402 and Rs 473, respectively.

Tata Motors has slipped 1.5% (Rs 6) to Rs 409. Bajaj Auto and Hero Honda have slipped over a per cent each to Rs 997 and Rs 425, respectively. Maruti, however, has recovered from lower levels and is marginally down at Rs 360.

ACC, Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja continue to languish at lower levels of Rs 271, Rs 1,154 and Rs 357, respectively.

Ranbaxy is firm at Rs 1,076 - up 1.2%. Cipla and Dr.Reddy's are also steady at lower levels of Rs 286 and Rs 755, respectively.

Sensex @1300 hrs:

The Sensex slipped to an intra-day low of 5,695, and is now down 11 points at 5,706. The Nifty is at 1,797 - down 11 points.

Infosys is up 2% (Rs 32) at Rs 1,717, and Satyam is up Rs 3 at Rs 391. Wipro, however, is down over a per cent (Rs 7) at Rs 623.

Reliance has slumped over a per cent (Rs 6) to Rs 541. HLL and ITC are also ruling weak at Rs 127 and Rs 1,103, respectively.

While ICICI Bank has advanced 1.4% (Rs 4) to Rs 290, HDFC Bank and SBI have declined 1.3% each to Rs 403 and Rs 474, respectively.

Tisco has dropped 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 294. Hindalco, however, is up Rs 2 at Rs 1,345.

Tata Motors has slipped 1.6% (Rs 7) to Rs 407. Bajaj Auto and Hero Honda have shed a per cent each to Rs 998 and Rs 425, respectively. Maruti is also languishing in negative zone at Rs 357.

ACC, Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja have extended losses and is down 2% each at Rs 270, Rs 1,150 and Rs 357, respectively.

Ranbaxy has surged 1.5% (Rs 15) to Rs 1,078. Cipla and Dr.Reddy's are down a per cent each at Rs 286 and Rs 756, respectively.

Bharti Tele has tumbled 3.6% (Rs 6) to Rs 151. Zee is down a per cent (Rs 2) at Rs 156.

Sensex @1224 hrs:

The Sensex is down seven points at 5,711. The Nifty is at 1,797 - down 11 points.

Infosys is firm with a gain of 2.2% (Rs 36) at Rs 1,722. While Satyam is up a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 392, Wipro has slipped 1.6% (Rs 10) to Rs 620.

Reliance is down Rs 3 at Rs 544. HLL and ITC are down a rupee each at Rs 127 and Rs 1,108, respectively.

HDFC has advanced 2.5% (Rs 17) to Rs 698.

While Tisco is down 1.5% (Rs 5) at Rs 295, Hindalco is up Rs 3 at Rs 1,346.

ACC, Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja have slumped 1.5% each to Rs 271, Rs 1,158 and Rs 359, respectively.

Bharti Tele has tumbled 3.3% (Rs 5) to Rs 152. Zee is down a per cent (Rs 2) to Rs 156.

The BSE BANKEX, Auto, PSU and Metal indices have declined a per cent each to 2,745, 2,354, 3,681 and 5,163, respectively. However, the BSE TECk index is up 0.6% at 1,477.

SAIL is topping the volume chart on the BSE, and the counter has clocked a volume of around 44.63 lakh shares so far. Tata Motors (11.68 lakh), Tisco (10.93 lakh), Satyam (8.8 lakh) and Infosys (6.11 lakh) have also logged good volume.

Infosys tops the value chart with a turnover of Rs 105.13 crore so far on the BSE. It is followed by Tata Motors (Rs 48.47 crore), TCS (Rs 42.28 crore), Satyam (Rs 34.56 crore) and Tisco (Rs 32.53 crore).

Sensex @1141 hrs:

The Sensex slipped below the 5,700-mark to touch a low of 5,696. The index is now down six points at 5,712. The Nifty is at 1,799 - down nine points.

Infosys is up 2% (Rs 33) at Rs 1,718. While Satyam is holding gains and is up Rs 3 at Rs 392, Wipro has slipped into negative zone and is down Rs 7 at Rs 623.

Reliance is down Rs 4 at Rs 543. HLL and ITC are down a rupee each at Rs 127 and Rs 1,108, respectively.

HDFC has moved up 2.3% (Rs 15) to Rs 696.

Tisco has declined 1.6% (Rs 5) to Rs 295.

ACC, Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja have declined a per cent each to Rs 272, Rs 1,162 and Rs 360, respectively.

Hero Honda and Tata Motors have slipped a per cent each to Rs 425 and Rs 411, respectively. Bajaj Auto and Maruti are also on the slippery ground at Rs 1,004 and Rs 357, respectively.

Bharti Tele is down 3.1% (Rs 5) at Rs 152. Zee is down a per cent at Rs 156.

The BSE BANKEX, Auto, PSU and Metal indices have declined a per cent each to 2,745, 2,354, 3,681 and 5,163, respectively. However, the BSE TECk index is up 0.6% at 1,477.

HMT has rallied 5.5% to Rs 23.05. Bombay Dyeing, Fertilizers & Chemicals, Asian Paints, HCL Infosys and Nicholas Pharma are up 1-2% each.

Mirc Electronics, Sterlite Optical, BEML, Jindal Stainless, UTI Bank, Shipping Corporation, Bongaigaon Refinery, Lupin, Jindal Steel, Neyveli Lignite, Welspun Gujarat, Tata Elxsi, Century Enka, Ispat Industries, MphasiS BFL, SAIL and Indian Overseas Bank are down 3-4% each.

Sensex @1100 hrs:

The Sensex slipped to an intra-day low of 5,709, and is now down three points at 5,715. The Nifty is at 1,800 - down eight points.

Infosys is firm at Rs 1,723. Satyam and Wipro are also holding gains at Rs 394 and Rs 637, respectively.

Reliance has shed Rs 4 at Rs 543, and ITC is down Rs 2 at Rs 1,107. HLL has declined a rupee at Rs 127.

Bhel is up a per cent (Rs 6) at Rs 623.

HDFC has advanced 2.2% (Rs 15) to Rs 696.

Hindalco is up Rs 2 at Rs 1,345. Tisco has declined 1.5% (Rs 4) to Rs 296.

Grasim has shed 1.3% (Rs 16) to Rs 1,160. ACC and Gujarat Ambuja are down a per cent each at Rs 273 and Rs 361.

Bharti Tele has plunged over 3% (Rs 5) to Rs 152.

Sensex @1037 hrs:

Lack of buying support in other sectors pushed the Sensex to an intra-day low at 5,729. The index is now up 13 points at 5,731. The Nifty has slipped into negative zone and is down two points at 1,807.

Strong Q2 results from Infosys is having a positive influence on all other stocks. Infosys has rallied 2.2% (Rs 38) to Rs 1,723. Satyam and Wipro are also ruling firm at Rs 395 and Rs 640, respectively.

ITC has gained Rs 6 at Rs 1,115, and HLL is down a rupee at Rs 127. Reliance, however, is unchanged at Rs 547.

Bhel has surged 1.6% (Rs 10) to Rs 626.

HDFC has advanced 1.5% (Rs 10) to Rs 691.

Hindalco has added Rs 9 at Rs 1,352. Tisco, however, is down Rs 2 at Rs 298.

Grasim is down Rs 10 at Rs 1,166. While Gujarat Ambuja is up a rupee at Rs 365, ACC is unchanged at Rs 276.

Bharti Tele has tumbled 2.3% (Rs 4) to Rs 153.

The BSE TECk index has rallied a per cent to 1,484. However, the BSE Auto, BANKEX, FMCG and Metal indices after a positive start have slipped into negative zones at 2,373, 2,756, 915 and 5,210, respectively.
