A top Reliance Industries official was interrogated by the Delhi Police in connection with the case of the tapping of Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh's phone.
Gopal Balasubramanium, a group president of Reliance Industries, whose name figured during the interrogation of some persons in the case, was questioned by a team of Delhi police on Saturday, police sources said in New Delhi on Monday.
They said there was no case against the Reliance official and he was summoned as his name had figured during the interrogation of some persons in the case, including that of Flex Industries chairman Ashok Chaturvedi.
Anurag, a private detective and a key accused in the case, had told police that he had approached Balasubramanium with the Amar Singh tapes and offered to sell him the same, they said adding that the Reliance official said he was not keen on obtaining the tapes.
Chaturvedi was aware of Amar Singh's phones being tapped and is understood have suggested Anurag to strike a deal with Balasubramanium, a friend of his (Anurag) father.
Four persons, including to private detectives Bhupendra and Anurag, a despatch rider with Reliance Infocomm Kuldeep and the person who allegedly forged the letters of sanction for tapping Vijay Dhawan have been arrested in the case.
Police had earlier said Bhupendra was paid Rs 300,000 by someone to carry out the entire phone tapping operation but later named him as the mastermind.
Amar Singh, whose statement was recorded by the police earlier this month, had said his close friend (believed to be Chaturvedi) had tipped him about his phones being under surveillance.
