Officers of India's third largest oil firm Hindustan Petroleum Corp on Thursday began an indefinite agitation against "arbitrary and autocratic" style of company management.

"About 2500 officers began the agitation today with boycott of company lunch and working two hours extra," Hindustan Petroleum Management Staff Association president Ashok Singh told PTI.

Singh, who said the agitation was against the alleged violation of procedures and policies laid down by the government for conduct of business in a public sector undertaking, threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike from January 19 "if the management does not improve its style of functioning."

The assocation alleged that there was no accountability of the board of directors to bring performance in line with market expectation.

It demanded an end to campus recruitment and out-of-turn promotions for campus recruits, transparency in promotion and transfer policy, review of all pending disciplinary action objectively and release of payments of arrears towards performance related scheme.
