The National Security Strategy document should flag all major issues concerning security strategy and provide guidelines to concerned departments to work out suitable action plans. Since the global and regional geopolitical canvas is dynamic, the NSS document should be deliberated at length before formulation and should be reviewed periodically, recommends Commodore Venugopal Menon (retd).
A special court in Bangladesh on Thursday sentenced 46 Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) soldiers to prison terms up to seven years for staging a revolt at their unit in the southeastern Khagrachhari hills in February 2009 when border guards in Dhaka had killed 57 army officers in a bloody massacre.
The Border Security Force and the Bangladesh Rifles traded gunfire after the BDR objecting to Indian fencing of the border.
Officials feared that the death toll could rise as rescuers find it difficult to reach remote areas.
