The US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year, always has singers, actors, former tennis champions and other celebrities come to watch the action. Rediff.com gives you a peek at those famous faces who graced Flushing Meadows this year.

American pop-rock singer, songwriter and pianist Greyson Chance, 14, performed at the opening ceremony of the US Open on August 29.

Chance's debut album Hold On 'til the Night broke records when it was released last month.

Following the performance, reigning Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova was knocked out in the first round following a shocking 7-6, 6-3 loss to by Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru.

American actors Shea Whigham and Steve Buscemi signed a Moet & Chandon champagne bottle at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The stars from Boardwalk Empire TV show later attended the match between Roger Federer and Dudi Sela, where the former World No 1 demolished the Israeli 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, in just 77 minutes.

The Devil Wears Prada and Entourage star witnessed Djokovic maul his Argentine opponent 6-0, 6-0, 6-2.

Legendary Jazz musician Tony Bennett also graced the courts on Day 2. The veteran American musician was feted by the US Tennis Association on the opening night for his longstanding career.

He later autographed a special edition of sponsor's Moet & Chandon champagne, which was auctioned off for charity at a reception.

Roddick advanced to the second round after defeating Russell 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Boston Celtics's NBA basketball player Kevin Garnett and his wife Brandi were also seen cheering on their favourite American stars. They were spotted at the match between Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France and Mardy Fish.

However, it was disappointment for Garnett and all American fans, as Tsonga beat eighth seed Fish 6-4, 6-7, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in an enthralling centre court clash, in nearly four hours, to march into the quarters.

Former English tennis player Virginia Wade watched Andy Murray play Feliciano Lopez.

Wade was the last British player to win a Wimbledon title -- having won at the All England Club in 1977.

Britain's Murray, the fourth seed, turned in his best performance of the tournament to defeat Spain's Feliciano Lopez 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, two days after he was pushed to five sets and the brink of an early exit.

Donald Trump cools down as Sharapova sweats it out

American business tycoon and television personality Donald Trump also made it to the opening day of the tournament.

As Trump sucked on to his ice-cream, Maria Sharapova beat British teenager Heather Watson 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in what was an unconvincing performance from the former World No. 1.

The Russian, a former champion, was knocked out of the tournament by Italy's Flavia Pannetta.
