India's Sanjeev Rajput won the silver medal but Gagan Narang had to settle for bronze in the men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, on Tuesday.

Daniel Rivers of England won the gold medal as he finished top with 452.9 points ahead of Rajput with 446.9 and Narang on 436.8.

Star Indian marksman Gagan Narang failed to defend his gold in the men's 50m rifle 3 position but managed to win a bronze while compatriot Sanjeev Rajput clinched the silver on the concluding day of the shooting events at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, on Tuesday.

31-year-old Narang, who had won a bronze in the 2012 London Olympics in 10m air rifle event, shot 423.3 while Rajput aggregated 436.8 in the final held under windy conditions at the Barry Buddon Shooting Center at Dundee.

England's Daniel Rivers won the gold with a total of 452.9.

Rajput, who was entering the 50m rifle 3 positions, and Narang were trailing at third and fifth after the three rounds of kneeling competition, each round having five shots. They were fourth and sixth respectively after the completion of three rounds of prone competition.

But Rajput and Narang made a remarkable recovery in the standing position to bag the silver and bronze respectively.

Narang had won gold in both the singles and pairs events of 50m rifle 3 position in both the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games.

With the two medals, India have bagged 16 from shooting ranges -- four gold, nine silver and three bronze. England won 15 medals (5, 2, 8) while Australia got eight (6, 0, 2).

For the record, Gagan returned with just one silver and a bronze from this edition of the Games. He also failed to equal Michael Gault (England) and Jaspal Rana's feat of nine gold in shooting at the Commonwealth Games.
