Goa, Punjab romp into Santosh Trophy semis

August 03, 2010 21:12 IST

Defending champions Goa and Punjab scored thumping wins to storm into the semi-finals of the 64th National Football Championship, for the Santosh Trophy, at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Goa rode on goals from Milagres Gonsalves (fifth and 13th minute), Adil Khan (51st) and Clifton Gonsalves (69th) to oust last year's semi-finalists Services 4-0 under lights in the second match of the day.

Goa (9 points) thus ended on a high with an all-win record in the quarter-final league.

Punjab, who thrashed Karnataka 5-1 in the first quarter-final league match of the day, finished second behind Goa in Group A.

Gurpreet Singh (4th and 5th minute) and Parveen Kumar (65th and 90+3rd) struck twice each, while substitute Rohit Kumar swelled the tally in the 87th minute.

RC Prakash scored the solitary goal for Karnataka in the 42nd minute as their campaign ended with three straight defeats.
