World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo is of the opinion that he would be considered one of the greatest footballers of all time in history by the time he retires.

On Wednesday, Ronaldo picked up the third Golden Boot award of his career for being the top scorer in Europe last season. The Real Madrid star is also the favorite to win the Ballon d'Or for a third time in January.

And, while insisting he still has plenty of years at the top left in him, the Portuguese is confident his place among the game's all-time greats is assured, China Daily reported.

Ronaldo said that he always want to be the best, that is what he works towards every day. He added that he respects what people think and he is making his own story bit by bit.

The striker said that he still has a long way to go and when he finishes his career he can look at his stats to see if he is among the best in history, adding that he is sure he would be.

Ronaldo's blistering form has continued this season with 22 goals in 16 games to propel the European champion to the top of La Liga and into the last 16 of the Champions League, the report added.

Welsh winger Gareth Bale has admitted that he is trying to get to the level of his Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and emulate him to become the best player in the world.

Ronaldo is the favourite to retain the prestigious Ballon D'Or award ahead of Barcelona's Lionel Messi. And Bale, the only British footballer nominated for the coveted prize, wants to become the king of football one day.

Bale affirmed that he can copy Ronaldo by winning the biggest individuals awards.  For the Welsh ace winning those types of trophies means that one is doing well.

But, the free kick specialist maintains that the main thing is, he is improving all the time and trying to get to the level of Ronaldo.

And the most expensive player in the world has tipped former Manchester United star Ronaldo to retain the Ballon D'Or this year.
