Shiv Kapur and Jeev Milkha Singh successfully dealt with the last hole when play resumed on Saturday to complete yesterday's unfinished second round game in the USD 1.8 million BMW Asian Open at the Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club in Shanghai.
The 24-year-old Kapur, lying in the bunker in front of the 18th green, got his par with an up-and-down from the sand trap for a round of 74 par and was one-over after two rounds.
Jeev, right on the line at three-over, needed to par from fairway. He played safe to do just that to ensure a paying weekend. Rahil Gangjee, on the 15th and at 13-over, did not start and was disqualified.
At the end of the second round, Kapur was tied 35th and Jeev tied 61st as 73 players made the cut. The third round started at 10.30 am local time with players going out in threesomes from two tees.
The weather continued to be overcast with a strong wind that kept changing directions. But the overnight rain made the greens softer and they were holding better than the first two days.
However, scoring on third day would be very difficult in such conditions.
Besides Gangjee, three other Indians missed the cut with Gaurav Ghei (75) and Amandeep Johl (76) at seven-over and Harmeet Kahlon (75) at nine over.
In the morning, Henrik Stenson completed his last in par for an even par 72 and took the lead at five-under 139 at the midway stage of the weather-disrupted tournament. The Swede, who led the first round on Thursday, was on the 18th green on five under before lightning suspended play.
On resumption, Stenson narrowly missed a 10-foot birdie putt and tapped in for par at the par five 18th hole.
Paul Lawrie, five-time winner on the European Tour, was a stroke adrift in second position. Malaysian stalwart Danny Chia made the cut comfortably in tied third as he carded a 70 yesterday and trailed the leader by two strokes.
The 33-year-old was tied in third alongside Filipino veteran Frankie Minoza, Peter Lawrie of Ireland and Portugal's Jose Filipe Lima who were three strokes behind the leader.
