Union Minister for Minority Affairs Abdul Rahman Antulay, under attack for his remarks on Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare's death, appears to have been let off the hook.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said the matter should be allowed to rest.

"I think to err is human. The matter should be allowed to rest," Singh said speaking to reporters after the sine die adjournment of the Parliament session dominated by demands for Antulay's head.

The prime minister said Home Minister P Chidamabaram's detailed statement has put to rest any doubts regarding the killing of Karkare.

"The hme mnister has categorically stated that any doubts Antulay ad, have no basis," he said.

The prime minister's statement that to eer is human was also a message to Antulay that discretion is the key to avoid controversies.

"Antulay has also subsequently made a statement and I think after both the things the matter should be allowed to rest," Singh, who had a meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, said.
