In a move to help the party general secretaries in their duties, the Congress on Friday appointed eight senior leaders, including two Union Ministers, as coordinators to get its act together ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Those appointed to the post include Union Ministers Vayalar Ravi and Santosh Bagrodia besides Pawan Singh Ghatowar, Janardhana Poojary, Birendra Singh, P J Kurien, Satpal Maharaj and Rajiv Shukla.

While Ghatowar would coordinate work with Ajay Maken who is the party in-charge for Jharkhand and Orissa, Ravi is paired with Arun Kumar who looks after the party's affairs in Tamil Nadu.

Shukla would coordinate with General Secretary B K Hari Prasad who has been entrusted with Gujarat and Goa, Janardhana Poojary is paired with another General Secretary Mohsina Kidwai, looking after West Bengal and Kerala.

Haryana Minister Birendra Singh will coordinate work with Mukul Wasnik looking after election-bound Rajasthan while Kerala MP P J Kurien has been paired with M Veerappa Moily, who is in charge of Andhra Pradesh and Assam.

Former Union Minister Satpal Maharaj will be coordinating work with General Secretary V Narainsamy, looking after poll bound Madhya Pradesh. Narainsamy was recently made Union Minister too.

While there are AICC secretaries to assist the general secretaries and in-charges, coordinators is a new post created by the Congress president to accommodate senior leaders and help overburdened office bearers, party sources said.
