Mayors of over 90 Indian and other Asian cities will meet in Dehradun from November 26 to participate in the first ever conference of mayors of the sub-continent.

"Forty mayors from Asian countries -- including six from Bangladesh -- will be participating in the conference that will be inaugurated by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaske.

"Over fifty mayors from India have already confirmed their entries. We are in touch with Pakistan and hope to get some entries," Panorama Defrayal Sharma, chairperson of All India Council of Mayors said in New Delhi on Thursday.

Uttaranchal Chief Minister N D Tiwari and Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy will also participate in the three-day talks on problems faced by the mayors in their respective cities.

"Urban poverty, innovative approach in poverty alleviation, tourism and transport, healthy city criteria are the key issues to be discussed at the conference," she said.

If all goes well, Sharma plans to hold the World Mayors' Conference in India. The schedule for the WMC would be announced during the course of the conference.
