Sensex ends up 28 points, Bajaj gains 5%

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 167 points at 18,215 on positive cues from the Asian markets. After extending gains in early trades, the index exhibited range-bound movement for the major part of the trading session on Tuesday.

After touching a high of 18,314, the index slipped into the red towards the close to a low of 18,018 - down 296 points from the day's high. The Sensex, however, ended with a marginal gain of 28 points at 18,076. The NSE Nifty ended four points higher at 5,281.

The BSE market breadth was positive - out of 2,808 stocks traded, 1,512 advanced and 1,237 declined on Tuesday.

INDEX MOVERS...

Bajaj Auto zoomed 5.5% to Rs 2,323. Ranbaxy soared nearly 5% to Rs 415. ACC moved up 4.4% to Rs 789.

TCS and Grasim rallied 2.7% each to Rs 875 and Rs 2,862, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra and Hindustan Unilever advanced over 2% each to Rs 658 and Rs 221, respectively.

Cipla gained 1.7% to Rs 188, and Larsen & Toubro was up 1.3% at Rs 3,553.

...AND THE SHAKERS

Reliance Energy plunged 4.4% to Rs 1,622. Hindalco declined 2.4% to Rs 180.

DLF and ITC dropped 2% each to Rs 842 and Rs 205, respectively.

HDFC slipped 1.4% to Rs 2,860.

MOST ACTIVE COUNTERS

Debutant OnMobile Global topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 1,042.25 crore followed by Reliance Natural Resources (Rs 298 crore), Reliance Capital (Rs 265.30 crore), Reliance Power (Rs 259.80 crore) and Reliance Energy (Rs 181.75 crore).

Reliance Natural Resources led the volume chart with trades of around 2.08 crore shares followed by OnMobile Global (1.97 crore), Ispat Industries (1.61 crore), Reliance Petroleum (1.02 crore) and Nagarjuna Fertilisers (87 lakh).
