The markets continue to consolidate at the higher levels and ended the day on a flat note with selective buying seen in index pivotals. The Sensex closed at 13,972.03 up 23.03 points. The Nifty was down 0.60 points or 0.01% at 4015.35. The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,767.45 up 28 points.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,779.39 up 2 points.
The BSE Bankex was up 0.8% at 7,253.80. Centurion BoP, Kotak Mahindra, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Karnataka Bank, SBI moved upwards.
The BSE Metal Index was up 0.6% to close at 9,201.12. Hindalco, Welspun Guj, Tata Steel, NALCO ended higher.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.14% at 9,474.50. ABB, Bharat Elec, Alstom Projects, Siemens, Greaves Cotton, BHEL closed higher.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,479.85 up 0.4%. Hind Motors, Ashok Leyland, Sundram, Cummins, Tata Motors moved higher.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 0.8% to close at 6,233.37. MRPL, Reliance, Petronet LNG, IOC ended in green.
The BSE FMCG Index lost 0.2% at 2,050.12, BSE Health Care Index was down 0.4% at 3,744.92 and BSE IT Index lost 0.7% at 5,161.13.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7466.61 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 22339.52 crore (Rs 223.39 billion). The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3798.4 crore (Rs 37.98 billion). Total market wide turnover was at Rs 33604.53 crore (Rs 336.04 billion).

The markets are quiet and trading in a range close to its previous close because of lack of buying interest at the peak. At 13.59 pm, the Sensex is up 8.86 points or 0.06% at 13957.86 and the Nifty down 6.35 points or 0.16% at 4009.6. About 1227 shares have advanced, 1243 shares declined, and 67 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex are Reliance at Rs 1,302.15 up 1.72%, Hindalco at Rs 180.40 up 1.52% and HDFC Bank at Rs 1,102.00 up 1.24%.
Top losers on the Sensex are Hero Honda at Rs 754 down 1.75%, Infosys at Rs 2,206.10 down 1.72% and HDFC at Rs 1,565 down 1.54%.
Top gainers on the Nifty are ABB Rs 3,766.90 up 2.42% and IPCL at Rs 291.00 up 1.93%.
Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 239.00 up 0.17% from its previous close of Rs 238.60.
Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,302.15 up 1.72% from its previous close of Rs 1,280.10.
Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,206.10 down 1.72% from its previous close of Rs 2,244.75.
Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 187.20 down 0.16% from its previous close of Rs 187.50.
Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 279.90 down 1.67% from its previous close of Rs 284.65.
Sensex @ 12.58 pm
The markets have slipped into the red terrain on some profit booking seen at the higher levels. IT, auto and select heavyweights like ITC and ONGC are slipping. At 12.58 pm IST, the Sensex is down 23.29 points or 0.17% at 13925.71, and the Nifty down 8.35 points or 0.21% at 4007.6.
About 1277 shares have advanced, 1147 shares declined, and 58 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex are Hindalco at Rs 181.60 up 2.19%, Reliance at Rs 1,305.70 up 2.00% and Dr Reddys Labs at Rs 764.40 up 1.03%.
Top losers on the Sensex are Infosys at Rs 2,209.00 down 1.59%, HDFC at Rs 1,565 down 1.54% and Hero Honda at Rs 756.50 down 1.42%
Top losers on the Nifty are HPCL at Rs 279.25 down 1.72% and Ranbaxy Labs at Rs 385.05 down 1.51%.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 279.15 down 1.93% from its previous close of Rs 284.65.

The markets continue to consolidate at the higher levels and are lacklustre due to lack of buying interest in scrips. However, providing support at the lower levels are oil & gas stocks and capital goods stock. More importantly the smallcaps and midcaps have outperformed.
At 12.00 pm IST, the Sensex is up 22.36 points or 0.16% at 13971.36, and the Nifty up 3.45 points or 0.09% at 4019.4.
About 1278 shares have advanced, 1015 shares declined, and 86 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex are Reliance at Rs 1,301.35 up 1.66%, BHEL at Rs 2,644.90 up 0.90% and L&T at Rs 1,475 up 0.83%
Top losers on the Sensex are Hero Honda at Rs 755 down 1.62%, HDFC at Rs 1,565.00 down 1.54% and Infosys at Rs 2,220.75 down 1.07%.

The markets are looking in consolidation phase and are trading flat with marginal gain on the back of buying seen in the select stocks of capital goods, metals, oil and gas sector. IT and FMCG stocks are trading weak.
At 10.56 am IST, the Sensex is up 12.05 points or 0.09% at 13961.05, and the Nifty up 3.85 points or 0.10% at 4019.8.
About 1222 shares have advanced, 816 shares declined, and 54 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex are Reliance at Rs 1,297.60 up 1.37%, Hindalco at Rs 179.65 up 1.10% and Tata Steel at Rs 493.40 up 0.92%.

Sensex @ 09.56 hrs:
The markets have opened in green in the morning session but became volatile. The buying interest was seen in IT, pharma, FMCG and cement stocks. At 9:56 am, the Sensex was up 33 points, at 13982 and the Nifty up 6 points at 4,022.
Gainers in the morning session were ITC, Hero honda, Reliance cap, Ranbaxy, HCL, TCS, Guj. Ambuja.
