Kanhaiya ko mara-pita hain. Usko dard bhi hain (Kanhaiya was beaten up. He was in pain),” said Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar’s brother Manikant Singh, who met him after an alleged sting operation by two TV channels that claims that lawyers beat up Kanhaiya Kumar for three hours inside a police lock-up while cops rooted for them.

Manikant told Rediff.com that Kanhaiya has confirmed his manhandling by a group of lawyers while police officials present at the Patiala House court remained mute spectators.

“When I met Kanhaiya, he admitted that he was beaten up,” he added.

Manikant said as there was a shortage of time during his meeting with Kanhaiya,he was more keen to know about parents, particularly mother Meena Devi and also about his paralysed father Jaishankar Singh’s health.

“Kanhaiya was more worried about parents and us than about himself,” Manikant said.

When asked about whether Kanhaiya informed in detail about how he was beaten up by lawyers. “Samay kahan tha in baton ke liye. Kanhaiya ne koi visesh nahin bola is bare mein -- lekin usko mara hain, uska dard aur uska chehra bata rahan tha ke camera ke peeche bhi mara hain, jab woh police custody mein tha (There was no time to talk. Kanhaiya avoided speaking much about the issue -- but he was beaten up, his pain was apparent on his face and it was obvious he was beaten up whilst in the care of the police),” Manikant said.

Manikant, who has been staying at the Communist Party of India headquarters in Delhi, (he calls it the party office) said here was no doubt about that he was beaten.

Kanhaiya ne chipaya hain koyonki who nahin chahta ke maa-babuji ko iska pata chale, woh ghabra jayenge (Kanhaiya deliberately hid this information from us, he did not want mother and father to find out about the beaten lest they be afraid),” Manikant stated.

“We are all afraid about threat to Kanhaiya’s life,” Manikant said.

Dar se inkar nahin kiya ja sakta hain,  jail mein bhi attack ho sakta hain, court ne bharosha dilaya hain phir bhi hamein dar to hain hi (We can’t ignore this fear. He could be attacked in prison. Even though the court has assured his security we are still afraid),” Manikant stated.

“I have met Kanhaiya only once in Tihar jail in Delhi. I do desire meeting him again,” he added.

Kanhaiya’s younger brother Prince Kumar, who is currently at his native village -- Bihat in Begusarai district in Bihar, said that our family have full faith in the Supreme Court that agreed to examine a complaint based on an alleged sting operation by two TV channels. “We are now more concern about Kanhaiya’s safety,” he said.

Kanhaiya’s mother Meena Devi and his father Jaishankar Singh said Kanhaiya is no more only their son, he is now son of the country, who was wrongly framed and called anti-national.

“Hundreds of thousands of people in the country are with Kanhaiya, we are confident of justice to him,” he added.
