The proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom on Tuesday stated that Assamese soldiers and officers working in the Indian defence forces for the sake of earning their livelihood should join the ULFA-led 'revolution for restoration of sovereignty of Assam'.
In a statement e-mailed to the media in Guwahati, ULFA spokesman, one major Raju Baruah, refuted the charges leveled by Air Marshal P K Borbora (an Assamese) of the Indian Air Force that the ULFA was a divided house and a faction of it was working in coordination with the Naga rebel group National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang in eastern Assam districts while another faction of it working with the help of Pakistani Inter Services Intelligence in western Assam areas.
The ULFA leader went on to state that instead of leveling 'such baseless accusation' against the ULFA, Air Marshal Borbora should have appealed to all Assamese soldiers and officers earning their livelihood by working in the Indian defence forces to join the 'freedom movement of Assam'.
The ULFA castigated the senior IAF official for making such 'fictitious allegations' against the ULFA 'to placate the colonial India government' and said such comments, which amounted to 'betrayal' to the people of Assam would never be able to derail the 'movement for restoration of sovereignty of Assam'.
The AOC-in-C of the Eastern Command of the IAF Air Marshal Borbora a couple of days back told the media in Shillong that "The ULFA has now been divided into two factions with one group playing to tunes of the ISI and another operating in nexus with the NSCN-K."
He said the ULFA faction working in western Assam in coordination with the ISI had camps in Bangladesh and was aiding infiltration from Bangladesh, while the other faction working in eastern Assam had build up nexus with the NSCN-K.
