A top official with the Tamil Nadu Armed Reserve Police unit in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, has been suspended for his links with saleswoman Jayalakshmi, who has levelled allegations of sexual abuse and cheating against 22 people, sources said on Sunday.

Director General of Police I K Govind ordered Additional Deputy Superintendent of Police C R Rajasekaran's suspension after a departmental enquiry found that he married Jayalakshmi in 1999 without divorcing his first wife, they said.

Rajasekaran was a DSP when he had "links" with Jayalakshmi, the sources said.

He is the fifth policeman to be suspended in the wake of the August 23 affidavit filed by Jayalakshmi in the Madurai bench of the Madras high court.

The woman filed the affidavit after the police produced her in court following a habeas corpus petition filed by her father stating that some policemen had abducted her.

The court had on Saturday ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the charges.
