Battered three-year-old Sanyam, who was admitted at Ummaid government hospital in Jodhpur with serious injuries inflicted on him by his stepfather, has shown some signs of improvement, doctors treating the child said on Saturday.

"He is traumatised and only saying 'my father beat me'. The boy was suffering for the last two months so the case is critical but he is showing sign of improvement," paediatrician Pramod Sharma said.

The boy was brought to the hospital by her mother Nidhi after being branded with hot iron rods and bitten at various places on his body by his step-father, who also used to keep him starved.

Nidhi managed to flee from her husband's confinement on February 22.

"Sanyam has two fractures, one in forearm and the other in shoulder besides bruises all over the swollen body. He has marks of human bites in many parts including stomach," Sharma said, adding that the child, however, has no head injury. Sharma said it will take almost two weeks to get back the child to normalcy.

Meanwhile, the stepfather Kailash Jain, who was arrestedon Friday, was produced before a Jalore court, which sent him to a three-day police custody, the police said.

"During interrogation, the accused said he did not like the boy because he was his step-son. So he used to hit and bite him whenever get chance," a police official said.

However, the police have not yet recovered any sharp weapon suspected to be used by the father during his atrocities on the child.

The case of Sanyam comes close on the heels of the shocking case of two-year-old baby Falak, who was admitted to a hospital in Delhi with severe bruises in her body, head injuries and broken arms on January 18.
