Telangana agitation: 7 suicides in 3 days

At least seven youths have committed suicide in the last three days in support of forming Telangana state.

Five youngsters committed suicide in the last two days, while two more suicides were reported on Thursday.

According to the police, a Telangana activist identified as Suresh hanged himself to death on Thursday morning.

Suresh, a resident of Kamareddy town in Nizamabad district, had said in a note left behind that he had lost hope of Telangana becoming a state.

Suresh's family and friends said he had been very active in the Telangana movement and participated in every meeting and demonstration held in support of Telangana.

In Medal district, a youth identified as A Dasrath hanged himself to death at his residence in Rajiv Gruhakalpa colony.

His family said Dasrath had ended his life for the sake of Telangana.

Five other suicides had been reported from different parts of Telangana since Tuesday.

K Venugopala Reddy, an MCA student immolated himself at the Osmania University campus in the wee hours of Tuesday, while Swarna, a student of first year BSc, set herself ablaze in Mehbubnagar district.

M Karunakar, a student from Gaganpahad of Warangal district, a 38-year-old farmer P Ravinder of Ameenabad village and 20-year-old NSUI activist of Nalgonda district also ended their lives this week.

The police said all the suicide victims had been active in the Telangana movement and had left behind letters saying so.

"At least after my suicide, the central government would form Telangana state," Ravinder had written in his suicide note.

According pro-Telangana leaders, more than 160 people have committed suicide in the last two months in regard to the Telangana movement.
