In a fresh trouble for Non-Resident Indian beautician Nooriya Haveliwala, the Maharashtra government on Friday moved the Bombay high court seeking enhancement of punishment awarded to her for drunken driving and culpable homicide.

Nooriya was sentenced to five years' imprisonment by the lower court for ramming her car into a taxi and a police vehicle, killing two persons including a traffic constable, in January 2010. The state government, in its plea before the court, has sought a ten-year sentence for her.

The state has also challenged Haveliwala's acquittal under the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, saying she was under the influence of drugs when the accident took place.

The beautician too has challenged her conviction, and sought bail. The matter will be heard on January 17.
