Narendra Modi on Wednesday claimed that the electorate of Amethi has destroyed the pride of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi and forced the latter to go around with folded hands in the constituency, which he would otherwise not visit in five years.

"Apka ahankar Amethi ki janta ne churchur kar diya, (the people of Amethi have destroyed your pride)," the BJP's prime ministerial candidate told an election meeting in Krishanagar, West Bengal.

"Yeh ma-bete ke sarkar aisa hi mante hain ki janta unke jeb mein hain, jab chahe, jaha chahe, jaise chahe unko nacha sakte hain (This mother-son government thinks that the people are in their pockets, whenever, wherever and whichever way they want they can make them dance)," Modi alleged.

"Those who would not visit Amethi even once in five years, today on election day there, they are roaming around the lanes of Amethi with folded hands," Modi said.

Amethi in Uttar Pradesh has sent a member of the Gandhi family to the Lok Sabha in every election since 1980, except two terms from 1991 to 1998, when family friend Satish Sharma represented the constituency.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has put up Smriti Irani as its candidate against

Rahul in Amethi, while the Aam Admi Party has fielded Kumar Viswas there.

Taking a dig at Congress president Sonia Gandhi for allegedly seeking votes only, Modi stated, "So I said yeh dil mange more."

'Modi is only seeking, the others are looting'

Turning to the crowd, he asked "Ap bataiye mangna bura hain ya lootna bura hain (You say whether seeking is better or looting is better)?"

"Modi is only seeking, those who are looting, let them say how long they will continue the loot," he said.

"They had promised 10 crore jobs before the 2009 elections, but has anyone got it?" he asked claiming that the people have been fooled by false promises.
