The National Commission for Minorities on Wednesday asked Information and Broadcasting Minister Jaipal Reddy to withhold the release of Vinod Pande's Sins.

The film, which allegedly depicts the sexual escapades of a priest, has been facing a lot of criticism from the Christian community. It is scheduled for a February 25 release.

NCM chairman Tarlochan Singh, in a written statement, asked Reddy to examine the film before its release.

In his statement, Singh said the NCM had received a complaint from the Archbishop of Delhi Vincent M Concessao about the film.

Singh informed the minister that he had received similar complaints from other minority communities regarding many other serials and films.

"We are planning to meet the chairperson of the Censor Board in this regard," he said.

In an earlier development, members of the Catholic community staged a protest against Sins. About 100 members gathered and burnt an effigy of Pandey.
