Singh joined the party at Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's residence in Jaipur. Chief Minister Raje, BJP state president Om Prakash Mathur, and several BJP leaders and Singh's supporters were present on the occasion.
A sitting legislator from Laxmangarh in Alwar district, Singh was expelled from the Congress in the aftermath of the oil for food scam allegedly involving his father about
two years ago.
He had joined the Bahujan Samaj Party a few months ago and was currently its state vice president.
Singh's sudden move is being related to the scion of the Bharatpur royal family and Jat leader Vishwendra Singh's defection to the Congress.
His entry into the saffron fold is seen as the BJP's bid to minimise the impact of Vishwendra Singh's departure in the wake of a dispute over allotment of party tickets in Bharatpur, particularly the Deeg-Kumher assembly seat which the Jat leader is now contesting on a Congress ticket.
Singh's father Natwar Singh continues in the BSP.
