India to open tourism office in Israel

India is going to open a tourism office in Tel Aviv, a Ministry of Tourism official said on Tuesday.

He told rediff.com that this was decided after a 30-minute meeting between Tourism Minister Jagmohan and Israeli Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Limor Livnat.

The official said Jagmohan suggested the setting up of a group comprising Indian and Israeli representatives to explore avenues for promoting tourism and culture between the two countries.

According to the official, the Israeli minister said both countries had a rich cultural heritage, which could be shared.

She mentioned that she liked the work of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, the official said.

"We will be very happy to publish the literary works of Tagore and other great Indian litterateurs," the official quoted her as saying.

She also pointed out that she was always fascinated with Indian history and its diverse cultures and peoples.
