Officers from the Delhi police, Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis Wing held meetings with agents of Mossad (Israel's secret service) in New Delhi on Friday to finalise the security arrangements for Israel Prime Minister Arial Sharon, who will be on an official visit to India from September 8 to 11.

Israel has flown in more then 200 agents and sharpshooters along with tonnes of equipment, including jammers and bullet-proof cars, to protect Sharon.

"After US President George Bush, it is Arial Sharon who figures on the list of terrorists. His threat perception is perhaps the topmost in the Middle East," an IB official said.

Spotters from Jammu and Kashmir have been asked to look out for terrorists. Israel has also flown in spotters in case some Hamas members reach India.

While the Delhi police will look after the route to be taken by Sharon's cavalcade, Israeli intelligence officials and commandos will constitute the innermost ring of his security.

Taj Man Singh, the hotel where Sharon will stay, will be cordoned off on Sunday, twenty-four hours before the VIP's arrival. Each employee will be given a special security pass during the three days that Sharon will be in the hotel.

"We are confident that we will give him the best possible security cover," said a police official who has dealt with VIP security in the past.
