Member of Parliament P A Sangma on Monday came full circle by quitting his Lok Sabha seat and announcing plans to formally re-join the NCP which he had left ahead of the Lok Sabha polls last year following differences with Sharad Pawar on the issue of tie up with Congress.

Sangma, who was elected to Lok Sabha from Tura constituency in Meghalaya, put in his papers in protest against police action innocent students in Tura and Williamnagar.

Talking to reporters after submitting his resignation to Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, Sangma, who had won the seat for a record eight times, said "I will now tour the constituency to assess public opinion and intensify the campaign to oppose the state's Congress-led government's decision to bifurcate the Meghalaya Board of School Education, headquarter of which is located in Tura."

Asked whether he would rally for a separate Garo Hills state if his demand was not met, he said "we will ascertain the mind of the people on the issue before taking any such step."

His resignation came hours after NCP spokesman D P Tripathi told reporters about the impending 'home coming' of the former Lok Sabha Speaker, who had become part of the Trinamool congress led by Mamata Banerjee ahead of Lok Sabha polls. The two leaders had then re-christened the party as Nationalist Trinamool Congress.
