India and Russia agreed to upgrade bilateral defence cooperation, Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran said on Saturday.
Saran spoke to the media before leaving for St Petersburg on the last leg of his three-day Russia visit.
In Moscow, Saran held talks with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and First Deputy Foreign Minister Valery Loschinin on bilateral, regional and international issues.
"Our relations are no longer of a client and vendor but of partnership. The BrahMos project is one such example," Saran said.
Saran added, "We have agreed to make efforts to upgrade our relationship through more such projects."
Energy cooperation was a key bilateral issue discussed by Saran. "Russia has welcomed Indian investments in its energy projects and talks are proceeding. We have announced a desire for considerable investments," he added.
Saran added that Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar had visited Moscow twice to discuss India's energy security.
