Five persons, including two railway personnel, received minor injuries on Monday after 11 bogies of the Jamnagar-bound 2478 Sarvodaya Express derailed near Jakada village near Viramgam, 55km from Ahmedabad.

The train left Jammu Tawi on Sunday at 1125 IST and was scheduled to reach Jamnagar at 2115 IST on Monday. It had left Ahmedabad station at around 1440 IST and derailed around 1530 IST. All the injured persons were treated for their injuries after a medical recovery van rushed to the spot along with senior railway officials. Around 350 passengers were shifted to the cities of Jamnagar and Rajkot.

Railway officials said that all Rajkot-bound trains from Ahmedabad and vice versa have been terminated at the two cities.

Divisional Railway Manager (Ahmedabad division) L M Sahor, who also rushed to the spot with the recovery van and rescue team, did not rule out cancellations of some trains but said that work was on to clear at least one track for movement of traffic.

The cause of the derailment is not known, Western Railway officials said in Ahmedabad. The commissioner of railway safety would be probing into the incident.

Railway official are also in the process of clearing another section of the track where a goods train had derailed near Dhangadhra town.
