Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has written to Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee chief Avtar Singh Makkar, asking him to keep an eye on the misguided youths trying to revive militancy in Punjab.

Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natrajan, in a press conference on Friday evening, had denied any knowledge about such a letter. Even Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar denied the existence of any such letter.

"Yes, he wrote a letter to me. I had written to him in December, asking him to take up the cases of those Sikhs who are living abroad and want to return to India," Mukkar told rediff.com.

In his letter, Dr Singh had promised that Sikhs wishing to return to India would be subjected to a review, and those without any links to terror cases would be allowed to return.

"In his letter, he told me that there were some elements who are trying to revive terrorism in India and these people live in England, USA and Canada," said Makkar.

But the Prime Minister did not mention any names or provide any intelligence inputs to prove his point.
