Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a meeting with ministers of state with independent charge, seeking to know about their work and feedback about government's policies.

During the two-hour interaction which was also attended by Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah, Modi sought suggestions from them for the upcoming meeting of BJP national executive to be held in Bengaluru.

Modi is learnt to have asked each of the 13 ministers about their experience in government and whether they faced any difficulties in discharge of their duties, sources said.

He also sought to know from the feedback of people over the government policies, they said. Some ministers gave their inputs for the upcoming meet, the first one after government formation, to be touted and made a part of the party's resolutions.

These include steps taken by various ministries ever since the national Democratic Alliance came to power last year. The Prime Minister also gave them pep talk on various initiatives taken by the government in the past over 10 months of rule and also asked about their problems, if any.

The meeting saw Modi telling the ministers to remain connected with public and take the policies and work of the government to them, besides working transparently in public interest.

The prime minister is learnt to have told them that maintaining the connect with grassroot workers was a must to dispel ambiguity about government policies, the sources said.

Some of key ministries such as coal, petroleum, environment and commerce and industry are headed by ministers of state with independent charge instead of full-fledged Cabinet ministers.

The meeting assumes significance as government is under attack from the opposition on the Land bill and the government and the BJP are keen to allay fears relating to Land Acquisition among the farmers.

The government also wants to send out a message that the NDA regime is not against farmers and pro-corporate and that the interest of the farming community will not be compromised as being claimed by the opposition.

Ahead of the Budget session, Modi had called his entire council of ministers for an interaction where he had sought 'out-of-box' suggestions on the Union Budget.

The meeting comes in the wake of reports about Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh brass asking government of a ‘disconnect’ that led to the party's loss in Delhi polls despite undertaking good work.

In the wake of such reports, BJP chief Amit Shah has also decided to meet party leaders and workers from across the country twice every first and third Mondays of each month.
