The Centre is likely to provide 18 Naxalite-hit states with funding under the revised scheme for modernisation of state police forces, Minister of State for Home Shriprakash Jaiswal said in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland are the states that will get 100 per cent funding.

Five states -- Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand -- will be provided 75 per cent central funding, he said.

He added that Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal would be given 60 per cent funding.

Though Naxal violence has only marginally declined in 2004 compared to the previous year, the overall violence in Jammu and Kashmir and northeastern states has shown perceptible decline during the period.

Earlier, Home Minister Shivraj Patil assured that the Centre would provide "enormous" funds for modernisation of forces in Naxal-hit areas.

Patil also said he would accept a proposal from the Telugu Desam Party's C Ramachandraiah for providing a special package to Andhra Pradesh.
