The Nandigram issue stalled proceedings in Parliament for the fifth consecutive day on Tuesday, forcing adjournment of both Houses.

In the Lok Sabha, Janata Dal-United leader Prabhunath Singh demanded the suspension of Question Hour to take up discussion on the central chemical hub project which was supposed to be set up at Nandigram in West Bengal.

As Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, who came to the House after a brief illness, disallowed the motion, the members of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance trooped into the well trying to raise the Nandigarm issue, forcing the adjournment.

In Rajya Sabha, BJP members and the lone Trinamool Congress member Dinesh Trivedi sought to raise the Nandigram issue as soon as the House met for the day.

Congress members were also on their feet vociferously demanding an apology from BJP member S S Ahluwalia for Monday's incident in the House.

Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat adjourned the House barely two minutes after it met for the day.

On Monday, Ahluwalia had rushed towards treasury benches when Finance Minister P Chidambaram was replying to the debate on the Budget.
