Bharatiya Janata Party chief M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday called for the review of the anti-defection law and pointed out that the continuing defection of members from various political parties is a cause for concern, according to party general secretary Pramod Mahajan.

Mahajan told reporters that Naidu made the suggestion at the party national executive meet in New Delhi.

Naidu, according to Mahajan, suggested that in order to give more teeth to the law, the membership of the defecting member of the party should be terminated as soon as he committed the act of defection.

Mahajan said another notable suggestion given by Naidu was to send a committed party member to every segment of the parliamentary constituencies not to contest elections, but to motivate the people towards the party.

Naidu, Mahajan said, also made a note that the general polls were 18 months away and the party had to make serious efforts to capture 300 parliamentary seats.
